We just got a new kitten, a female. She's just a few months old. She is black with a white-tipped tail. Has green eyes (although I'm not sure she will retain that eye color). Any suggestions for her? I think we'd go for something that sounds more cool than "cutesy." But cutesy names are welcome, too.

gothhick: Itchy and Stratchy... hm. We have one other cat and his name is Stitch. Maybe we could name the little kitten Lilo!

smcin: You named one of your cats "Orange Cat?" LOL. But I like that method. Makes it easier to name cats.

lunarsight: I should slap you silly for your complete lack of imagination. :P :)

Let's see - something innovative and groundbreaking -- for a cat name.

What about Tabby?

How about Winifred, Sarah, or Mary? That's the names of the Sanderson sister witches in that movie Hocus Pocus. You know, black cats/witches??? Or how about something from the Broadway show Cats? Grizabella, Gus, Deuteronomy, Victoria, and Mistoffelees to name a few of those characters. You could also just go with something generic like Coal, Raven, or how about Lady Hawk, maybe Lady for short?? Sorry for the long answer, I used to work at an animal shelter and was in charge of naming LOTS of animals, I got really in to it! :)

I've always let my cats name themselves. After about a week or two of having the new cat/kitten, they display certain personality traits that lend themselves to names. I have so far:

Stinkie (got sick as a kitten and stank to high heaven)
Pepper (She has a very unusual coloration similar to a brindle)
Ivan (born during the hurricane of the same name)
Sugar (she was the sweetest little kitten)
Orange Cat (dull as dirt. After a year, still no name)

How about Oreo or Domino? Do you know her history?

My last cat was found in a ditch and weighed only a quarter of a pound, so they called her Quarter Pounder. When I adopted her she was 18 months old and I thought it was a little late to change her name. So she was Quarter Pounder or QP or Q til the day she died, a year ago last july.

There are web sites to help you you know ? I'd settle on something that "speaks" of her personality ! You shouldn't rely on others to name your cat ! Find something you are comfortable calling out, something that rolls off your tongue. Do you like nicknames ? Try out the name and try to think of all the ways it will or can be shortened. Have Fun.
(It took me two weeks to finally name my last cat, she's a calico and I named her "Pepper")

I have a six month old tabby kitten who is spoiled rotten and knows it! My husband and I named her Reina and a few weeks later remembered that this means "queen" in Spanish-and trust me it fits! Also with her green eyes, maybe Jade? Mila is also kinda neat and different. Good luck!

Melissa means "lioness of God". That's from the bible.

Zariel means "lion princess". That's Hebrew I think.

Blue eyes in a kitten can change with age. Green eyes should stay that way.
