If you do not return your marriage license to the court house does it void your marriage?

In order for a marriage to be registered the marriage license must be processed by the Registrar. Some counties have time limits for doing this so you can't send it in 5 years later and still be considered legally married. You'd need to check with your local office to see what their time limits are, they vary from 10 days to a year or so.

Does it "void your marriage"? Yes and no.

Marriage is a social contract AND a legal contract, so it would not invalidate the social contract (vows) you made.
However, the marriage would never be legal, so as far as the courts are concerned, you would never have been married at all.

Hope that answers your question.

If it isn't registered within a certain amount of time, yes.

Happened to my sister-in-law and one friend. Both had to go through a civil ceremony.
