Go to the emergency room and get stitches. Anything that is still bleeding after 2 hours needs stitches.
I did the same thing on a can of catfood many years ago. It took 7 stitches.

You might need a tetanus shot, at the worst you would just need some butterfly stiches (the little white strips). Usually cuts on the fingers or toes look a lot worse then they really are, usual consensus with us doctors is if it hasn't stopped bleeding heavily after 2 hours you would more then likely need stiches.

If it doesn't stop bleeding I'd go to the doc. But I'd leave it bent a while longer to see it it scabs up enough to not bleed when it is straight. Also, your insurance company may have a nurse advice line. Or call the ER to see if they can hook you up with an advice nurse available.

If you have some electrical tape wrap it around it like a band aid. I have done this for years it works. But if you can see the muscle you need stitches.

When it looks like a "gaping" wound. In other words, the two sides are really far apart and look like they won't come back together again without a stitch or two.

You probably need stitches. When my son cut himself on the hand it was the same. When I brought him in he got 2 stitches. If you get stitches it will reduce the size of scar that is left.

Clean it out with peroxide, put a little triple antibiotic ointment on it and tape the skin down. Don't use a band-aid.....just tape. When you change the tape, be careful and take the tape off gently. It should be fine

Try a bandaid, snuggly and that will bring the skin back together. A lot cheaper than a trip to the ER.

You know you need stitches when you go to the doctor and he says you do... which he probably will in your case since it sounds like you have a wound that would not heal without suturing.
