i'm referring to the electronic ones that are about $100. We had 3 cats & that was pushing it, now we just rescued another. I scoop at least once a day & can barely keep up. Any oninions on a self cleaning box?

I had four cats and therefore had TWO litter boxes. I don't like the smell of a litter box so I cleaned them both once a day. I now only have two cats and one litter box and still clean it once a day. I tried one of those electronic litter boxes - 1st problem you have to be able to plug it in somewhere, 2nd problem mine didn't like the noise it made ! I ditched it !!

I have 2 indoor cats and we own a self cleaning box. I usually have to put a scoop of litter in it every day but I only have to change the plastic compartment about every 3-4 days. Anyway, if you have the ability there is a self cleaning box that runs about $300 and requires installation into your plumbing system but after the cat leaves the box, all the yucky stuff is flushed down the toliet, so you never have to touch anything! Since that option is pretty pricey, I recommend the Littermaid Elite box, you can get a carpet to catch litter, the boxes, charcoal filters (for smell), a tent and special litter (made from corn instead of sand) I definetely recommend the litter as it works much better than anything else I tried. All of the Littermaid line is available at Petsmart or petsmart.com

You'd probably need 2 of them if you decide to go that route. I had one for 2 cats and it still needed to be emptied once a day or at the very least, once every other day. Also, the poop would often fall out the sides when it scooped out. And, you'll need to get some rubber gloves because you'll touch poop when you empty the container. It's not a very clean method, but all in all, it was better than doing the old scooper.

All they do is scoop it into a little compartment. They are expensive and you still have to clean them and change the litter. I have five cats and I purchase the old fashioned clay litter. In my opinion, it works best. The cats don't like that perfume-y stuff. Change the box every other day. It takes less than ten minutes and the cost is minimal.

I always thought they would be a great thing and have not bought one because of the price, but now I have read here on Yahoo that someone had cat get stuck in one. I'd do some reserach. I had three at a time once and used two litter boxes.

I have a self cleaning litter box and it is so easy. It comes with a container which the poo is collected and you just throw away the container. it saves a lot of time espically if you have three cats. It keeps your house smelling better, and keeps the litter box clean at all times. It has a timer it will self clean after 10 minutes. to get one you can go to wal-mart or any pet store!

Another thing for lazy people to waste their money on. No offence. If you can't handle scooping a couple times a day, why do you have them?

We've thought about getting those.

But my hubby does such a good job that I decided not to retire him.

I've heard a few people who said they were no big help.

Scoop away!!!
