i am a well travelled westerner and would like to ask you people a question that has been haunting me for years. i find that a lot of people nowadays are joining very extremists Religious groups, and that has become more of a fashion. mormon, hare krishna, bagawan sects, islam, fundamentalist christian and buddhist groups are doing good business. so many other small cults are flurishing too.
when i was studing philosophy this is what a teacher told me about fundamentalism. since science and new knowledge has wiped out practically every religious belief, people have lost hope and think that by been more extremist that some how or other God may become a reality to them

but no longer can we believe in a supreme god who controls the universe and life, can we?

I am intelligent and knowledgeable and I can say confidently that I have had first-hand experience with an indisputable higher power. I hope it happens to you someday. "If one has not seen, one cannot know. If one sees, one knows"

I have to agree with you on most all points. You posted a very good summary.

I believe a lot of it is because of the persons up bringing. There are a lot of the old world left in today's world. The older group of people who was taught the old way are still with us and have done a great job of brainwashing their kids which are now adults. More and more people are being better educated and that is the only way to remove the influence of myth and religion. As this happens it causes conflict and is why people are going to ext rems trying to hold on to the past.

It will just take time for it to pass through the system. Give it 100 years and it will pretty much all be gone.

Science does not prove that there's no god. And I'm not just talking about how all this got here. I'm talking about how there can be as many as 11 dimensions out there and we can only comprehend 4. What do 4D minded scientists no about proving an 11 dimension god.

There is also alot of science that points to there being a higher power (god) in the universe. By virtue of the fact that nature is so diverse and that we still know so little about our amazing universe means there must be somebody out there.

I'm a Christian and I believe in Intellegient Design. Look into it.

I think that cults and religiously extreme groups flourish on fear. The more frightening the times, the more people are likely to retreat from the danger and be more susceptible to groups that promise they will take care of everything for you and you don't have to think about it or anything - they will take care of you.

My beliefs are not mainstream, certainly, but I can reconcile a lot with my faith - and my husband is devout Catholic and he sees his god in everything (in every hill, every invention, every theory). While I don't believe in god as a person - I can see a divine power in everything myself. It's what animates us and the world around us. While I don't think there is "a supreme being" controlling our existence, I think there is a divine energy that we can kind of co-create with.

The other thing I would like to say is that there are more and more people who are not taking someone's word for what science says. I am finding more non-believers in the science world these days - people who are taking their health into their own hands and not religiously following doctors and the FDA about what is good or bad for us. We are seeing Astronomers reclassing the planets. We are learning how much we don't know every day, just as much as we are learning new things. Science is a fluid field, that changes regularly. How can that sway the truly faithful?

Peace!

Your teacher was not accurate because academia got into what is or was called higher criticism. Which critisized all faith which leads to the conclusion that there are no absolutes. That dynamic changes the dynamic of our society a lot, and has done its own damage. From 1960 on till now people have lost integrity and are trying to find it.

Is there such a thing as sin, you bet there is and your generation said there are no absolutes. You can fill in the blanks of this past generation as to why this is happening about people getting into extremes

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

As to your observation about mormon, hare krishna, bagawan sects, etc.

2 Timothy 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

You put alot of 'faith' in this teacher's rhetoric. FYI Christianity is not a business-it takes $ to operate churches and big functions. What science & what new knowledge has wiped out belief-his? Take a glance at Joel Osteen, John Hagee, TBN, Dr. J. Kennedy and try & figure out if the crowds seem unsure or joyous. Remember this TRUE writing 'the devil knows his time is short & he is seeking whom he can to devour'. Our eternal destiny is on the line.

I think many people have lost sight of the basic simple truth of God's love and His instructions for us. It seems that everywhere you look, people are unhappy with one thing or another, and everyone is looking for answers, or excuses, maybe, to explain simple things, and to allow them to do whatever they want to without having to worry about consequenses. The saying goes that all roads lead to God, but that just isn't true, all roads do not lead to God. It is a very narrow and not often travelled road, and it is the hardest one there is. But people always want the easy way out, so they have all these new "religions" that conform to their own ways of thinking and acting, that way they don't have any sins to answer for. So, their mind is more at ease and it is an easier life for them, well, on this earth anyways, that says nothing of what deep down inside we all knnow will come after. Some peoples eyes are seriously blinded by selfishness. For me, I beleive in your last statement. I still and always will beleive in a Supreme God who controls the universe, only we have to let Him do that, not try to take it upon ourselves to control it for Him. This world is not our home, and it is not ours, It belongs to God. That is the simple truth. I pray that your eyes will remain open to Gods love for you and you will continue to seek Him and know Him. God Bless!!

islam is NOT a fundamentalist religion...
its all abt peace..... its the media that portrays it so differently... if u wanna write sumthin abt islam... first go n read the Quran n then talk abt it...
n anyways.. ur teacher is "WRONG" since the whole world is a LIVING PROOF OF GOD'S EXISTANCE...
we can feel His presence all the time!!!!!!
islam is all abt science... in Quran there r many times where Allah has ordered us to look at the universe n to gain knowledge.... even the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said "rabbi zidni ilma".. translation" GOD GIVE ME MORE KNOWLEDGE".... n this is the reason why muslims reached such great heights when the west was in the "dark ages".... but then when muslims left the Quran n started indulging into the luxuries oflife.. music etc... their downfall came!!!!!

I believe that it's because people are seeking religions that will fit their current way of thinking. When searching for a church or religion, they are told things that they want to hear, which may or may not be the truth. Anything to get them into the cult, church, etc. They're promised things that can't possibly be delivered and, in their desperate searching, will believe it.

Science and new knowledge hasn't changed His message one iota. The only ones that have lost hope are those that subscribe to such. He's still right here. He never changes. If He seems distant or non-existant guess who moved?
