It sure does.

It shows me why I rejected christianity in the first place and reaffirms that I should continue seeking truth.

From the site:

Question: "Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?"

Answer: Why do bad things happen to good people? That is one of the difficult questions in all of theology. God is eternal, infinite, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, etc. Why should we human beings (not eternal, infinite, omniscient, omnipresent, or omnipotent) expect to be able to fully understand God’s ways?"
-----------------------------

Right about there you should stop reading if you are a rational human being. Basically the answers fundamentalists can give is "We don't know and it doesn't matter to figure it out or try to understand it because we are not God so we are unable. Anything we come up with is made up by us to justify God, but in the event we can't make up a decent excuse, remember we are humans and it is impossible to know"

Let's start with this one:

~Does God exist? I find it interesting that so much attention is given to this debate. The latest surveys tell us that over 90% of people in the world today believe in the existence of God or some higher power. Yet, somehow the responsibility is placed on those who believe God does exist to somehow prove that He really does exist. To me, I think it should be the other way around.~

The problem with this argument is that you're asserting something. If you assert something, you have to be the one to prove it.

For example, if I say "There's a Lippizanner stallion in the front yard," you may take my word for it, or you may not. If you don't you say, "Prove it!" and I pull back the shades. But I can't reasonably expect you to prove there *isn't* a Lippizanner stallion in the front yard, can I?

Same thing in law - the burden of proof is on the prosecution b/c they are the ones making a positive claim. If the prosecution can't prove their claim, the defendant doesn't EVER have to say anything.

Bottom line, everybody in the world may say there's a horse in the yard, but if anybody says they don't believe you, it's your job to prove it to them, not the other way around.

I think most of us have no questions about your god. Why would we have questions about something we don't believe in...

I do however learn a lot about the views of others. Christian beliefs are even more diverse, and not able to agree with each other, more then I knew. Some concepts are sane and harmless, thought I've also learned of some concepts that are rather nutty and scary.

Nope... but then again I don't remember asking any questions lately on God... I did all that when I was younger and went to church and read the bible... and then wow I realized that there was NO way I could believe in God. Thanks for trying though... how many more points do you need to win the golden plated bible? Just wondered!!! HAPPY TO BE AGNOSTIC !

I am sorry that people are so forceful about their beliefs. I know there is really meat to it and reason for christianity. All these blogs show is the people who are cruel to athiests-not all who believe in God are like that. This site is not good if one is searching.

No, because I'm not looking for definite answers, as though I were an ignorant person who needs to be fed with information. I'm looking for someone open-minded, intelligent and reasonable to discuss religion with. That's not what your site gives you.

What makes you think I had questions about God?

2006-09-07 15:58:20 · answer #9 · answered by Kathryn™ 6 · 0 0

actually this site if anything pushes me further from god. i try to ask questions or read questions because i am just curious about what people believe. but then i am attacked for being an atheist. so that kind of sours my opinion of christians. i just remind myself it isn't all of them.

Nope, I just want to know if all complex things (like us) require a creator then who created God.

This site didn't clear it up either.

But that's not the point.
