I'm not an Atheist. I do believe there is a God. Just not the Christian God.

Wow. I've read the replies to this question, and all I can say is wow. All of the people who aren't christians weren't mean...then some christian threatens to beat someone with a bible, and then another one says stfu. That seems spiritual (NOT!). You're setting a good example (NOT!).

Well,,,,lets say that for some time I was most ashamed at my own actions, gullibility and arrogance...however, I finally got past that by doing what the Scripture instructs....I started to study the Hebrew Bible....and learned the Hebrew Language in order to read what the Hebrew Original Text Instructs for life.....and now have peace in my heart and mind,,,and follow the Noachide Seven Universal Laws for life. May GOD be blessed and praised for Mercy and Justice. Shalom...

Not so much ashamed of having been a Christian, as of what kind of Christian I was. There have been some truly admirable Christians, such as St. Francis, Thomas Merton, Dostoevsky. People like that, however, are few and far between, and not just as Christians. Still, it makes me think that the religion itself isn't as much of a problem as the people who claim to follow it.

Jesus said that those who deny Him before others, He will deny before the Father.

Usually those that leave church ashamed of Christianity were never born of God in the first place. They are sinners needing a Saviour.

Once someone is born of God, always a born again Christian.

i have nothing to be ashamed of, i am so greatful that God has given me another chance. i am prouod to be called a CHRISTIAN. it is crazy to think that we have evolved. to believe beauty came from something like a big explosion. there will be a judgement day. i hope you make the right choice. remember there are only two places you can go when you die, so God Bless and hope to see you in Heaven.

No... I was very young when I called myself a Christian and I hadn't fully come to realize how hypocritical and just plain mean and nasty most Christians are. Don't get me wrong, there are some good ones out there, but if you challenge their belief system most of them will turn on you like a pack of hyenas, plus there are some very unusual Christian sects (i.e. cults) here in the South that are just frikkin' nutty!! Like these people:

I am a Buddhist, and I am not ashamed to once have been a Christian. That religion was like the training wheels on a bike, without them I would not be a Buddhist now, but it would be rediculous to still follow it. It still taught me about compassion.

You keep that in mind when you bow your knee to Him and they drag you and cast you into the lake of fire which burns forever. Pour Gasoline on yourself and light it and you have a small taste of what is in store for you unless you repent. God is love but he is also a consuming fire!
