for each others' b-days, we (the rest of the family, it's only 5 of us in the family so the 4 who aren't having a b-day) get up at the crack of dawn (no set time could be 3, 5, 6 a.m) and sing happy birthday to the other and give our presents and always ballons and the birthday card. We also do this for mother's and father's day (minus the song, of course) it's really the only thing that I would call a tradition.

My family started having an annual reunion in the late 1960's. It started as a party for my grandfather and has continued ever since. My grandfather passed in 1977, but all of his children are still alive and attend every year. Our average crowd is 150 or so, our biggest crowd had been over 300. Mostly family but some friends and aquaintences........

we are a small family circle but we are very close to one another, we never let each other down. All of us are refined and we have the same interests. Sometimes we get together and just talk and it is very interesting. So much inderstanding. I like our holiday traditions and cooking traditions.

This is gonna sound weird...but oh well. Growing up as kids, my cousins and I watched WAY too much tv. The Cosby Show was a favorite. In one episode they have a Dance Challenge (pronounced Cha-lahn-ge). During our family events (which is like every month) we have our own Dance Challenge...except NONE of us can dance...at all. So we get in a circle (whomever wants to join in can you are not forced...everyone else not participating has to judge) and we have a "dance off" to whatever song one person gets to choose (it varies and recently they have become really weird). It is HYSTERICAL and it makes family events a lot less boring and drab. We now have shirts that we give out that say "Dance Contest Winner." Actually it is embarrassing to admit this. : )

My husband's family always have Sunday dinners and once a year they have a big family camping trip at a cabin or in the back yard. It is fun. Just us and our kids, we do something every friday we can, like movie and popcorn, board games, or stories. We try and do trips to the library as much as we can and we do walks down the street to the park and play.

The best traditoin my family has is to respect each others boundries and to accept the fact that sometimes eveyone wants to spend holidays with friends instead of family.
