I was sent a check and did not know that it was fake. I cashed it and now I am in trouble till it is payed back. Can I file bancruptcy to clear this or what? I do not know what to do. I turned it all over to the police and secret service.

Bankruptcy laws changed in 2006. You no longer get a clean slate in filing bankruptcy.

You have to make arrangements to repay your debts.

If you have a fraud situation, bankruptcy is not the road to travel.
Fraud, is a legal issue and most banks are insured against fraud.
Unless you committed the fraud.
Then there is only one way out and that is to spend some time in the hoosegow(jail/prison) and pay your debt that way.

I'm not sure if the term debtor's prison means anything to you but you might want to check it out.

Yes, but I wouldn't file over something minor like this unless you have a ton of other debt you'd like to get a fresh start on. It's better to make arrangements with the bank and stick to them until the debt is cleared.

You can file case against that bank yo the ombudsman. I believe they will take severe action against them if you have yhe proof of all the documents and correspondance.

get your credit reports and make sure the check isn't on tthem and also contact whoever wrote you that check and make them make good on it if not goto the police and they should beable to go with you over there and if they don't make good on the check you can press charges and they will be arrested
