If there was somebody who never really believed in religion, but recently got "saved" and was on their way to church so that they could be baptised but they got in to a car accident and died immediately, would they still go to heaven even if they hadn't been baptised?

Depends on who you ask.

Faith-based demoninations will say that the person was saved b/c they already took the step of faith, and works like baptism are only a signal to the rest of the world that an inner change has already happened.

Other demoniations will tell you that baptism is part of salvation , and that the individual would not go straight to Heaven (perhaps to Purgatory) but would eventually be saved. I don't think even the most cruel person would truly think that an individual, having had a true change of hear that spurred them on to right action, could die in the middle of taking that action and be condemned.

And if they would, they sure as #ell shouldn't!

I would think so. In Acts, when Cornelius and his family and friends became Christians (the first Gentiles to do so), they recieved the same blessing (Holy Spirit filling, with the ability to speak in other languages) as the Apostles (who were all Jews). St. Peter saw this as a confirmation that they had already recieved salvation from the Lord through their faith. They were baptized in recognition of that faith.

Now, baptism is a lot like circumcision was to the Jewish people: the outward sign or ceremony that a person belongs to a certain religious clan/group.

In reality, it isn't necessary to "go to church" to get baptized. A bathtub will do just fine!

Absolutely. It mentions in the New Testament that all those who believe in the Lord will be saved. According to my beliefs, anyway, being recently saved IS in fact believing. And no matter what you do on the surface of this earth, Jesus knows your heart. He knows if you are true and honest, and as far as I'm concerned, you don't have to be baptized to have a relationship with God. Rest easy, God Bless!

Salvation has nothing to do with baptism.

True, baptism is a commandment for everone to follow, so a saved person should be baptised in order to obey God (if he can), but it is faith that saves, not water.

Yes. When you believe you are saved. I don't believe you need to be baptised to go to Heaven.

God looks at the heart .. He knows every thing so He will know if you truly believe in Him ... He is the only way to the Father ... no man gets to the Father with out Jesus in their hearts ..... so if your not sure if you are saved you should get down on your knees and ask Him into your heart as we are not promised a tomorrow .... my God be with you and keep you safe and blessed

Yes, because being baptized has nothing to do with being "Saved". Baptism is an outward expression to show that you are following Jesus' example and are dead to your old ways and arise a new being!
