I'm an atheist, but it absolutely astounds me that Christians(I know I'm generalizing ALL religions here) go on and on about homosexuality being an abomination.
If God created us in the womb, and he knows the day we will die, and all about us, and that good stuff from the beginning, then why would he create a person homosexual?
Based on my own feelings, tv programs I have seen, it is just insane that some people think homosexuals choose their lifestyle. It is certainly not a concious choice.
So, your god makes babies with disabilities, people who have life crippling illnesses from birth, etc, so why does he treat homosexuality differently? If they chose their lifestyle, then sure, but when a person feels beat internally from the begining, how can one say the ysimply choose to live in sin? What kind of god would make a person that way, only to condemn them?
That is some god you worship... And no, I do not think that god is punishing this country because of our support of gays.

Ask any gay person, I guarantee they will say they did not choose. They have dealt with the horror and oppression they feel, based off of internal feelings they've had since birth.
There have been many studies into the cause of homosexuality, but the full reasoning behind the cause is of course alluding us still.
Boys born with an older brother have like an extra 30% chance of being gay for every older brother they have.
Possibly something to do with the mother's hormones in the womb according to some studies.

This is the link of a UMASS student who essentially paraphrased what are probably the two most important studies so far.

Sorry you feel atheists are conceited jerks, and let me appologize to any atheists I've offended! It is true, you just can't change some people, and that is not my intention here. I just want to hear your opinions. So, why do certain animals demonstrate homosexual actions? I mean, since Adam and Eve sinned, and cursed mankind to experience sin, then how do emotionless, sinless animals act out in this way?
As for the comment that how can you distinguish homosexuality from pedophilia or abnormalities, I have to admit you got me there. But, then, that is the reason we should be seeking the truth, and not just accepting what others tell us is the truth, on simple 'faith' alone. THAT is what atheists follow. Not blind faith in evolution, or a religion pushed by any man. Regardless of how much one group or another respects and worships him. Seek out the truth yourself. That is why I asked this question.

You illustrate so many of the inconsistencies of the catholic faith.

But don't expect fundamentalist morons to get the idea at all. Their minds are so well trained at dismissing interesting debate.

All they will do is say:
Gays are sinners
Jesus is Lord and dies for you
etc, etc, f'n etc.

Well Done in bringin up good point though.

I just flush the books. It's about as resonable as the fundos get. http://flushaholybook.

Exodus International claims that a person can, and has, changed his sexual orientation. If it is true that one can change, then it must be a choice to STAY homosexual indefinitely when there seems to be a viable alternative.

Many homosexuals will say that they would not want a cure even if one was found, and proven to work, so based on that statement I suppose that it would be difficult to argue that sexual orientation is not a choice on some level.

I suppose that an alcoholic did not choose his particular weakness, but he can choose to overcome it and get on with his life. If an alcoholic choose NOT to go to AA, then he obviously chose his lifestyle because the alternative was just too much work.

Everyone has some type of temptation or weakness to overcome. If I cannot sleep around with girls even though I feel like it (because it is sin) then why should I feel sorry for a gay person who is complaining that God is unfair because God thinks that his sleeping with guys is a sin.

If I cannot get away with my favorite sin, then I don't see why I should support a gay person's "right" to practice his favorite sin. Fair is fair.

Nice question and a nice point from your view. I do understand but I must ask you a question. Did God Himself tell you that He condemned homosexuals? If He did OK, but I would find that hard to believe my friend.

Oh yes, too many who have made themselves as the Spokesman of God have done it and do it all the time. Next time one does that or says that to you ask for his or her I.D. card. You know I think my God does give out I.D. cards to all his spokesmen.

My friend My God loves all his creation and did make provisions for all of it to be reformed to conform to specific standards if such is desired. It is clearly stated the My God look at all that He had made and say that it was Very Good.

I agree with you that the choice to be a thief, liar, homosexual is not a conscious choice. That is how we are made [its in the innate nature] but the choice to reveal it and to not have it fixed is a conscious choice. Likewise the choice to remain a thief, liar, and a homosexual is also a conscious choice.

I do say this because I see it as if one discovers that he has a rotten tooth that is beginning to hurt a little. Now he must make a choice to fix it or to just let it be as it is. He can not change the fact the tooth is rotten, but now he can make a decision about what does lie ahead. History we must accept but we can learn from it and act upon the lessons we see in our view about it.
I think that what we do today will effect tomorrow in some way.

I can see your point and I think in my view more time should be spent in attempting to teach the truth and showing the way to the change and less time in condemnation. However that is also just a dream I guess for most are content not to change from being self appointed judges who want to eliminate the bad guys in their opinion. The self appointed judges seem to have missed the point that A religion called Christianity does teach that God or Jesus is the Judge and no one else in the long run.

Yes my friend you did ask a good question and I do hope some of the self righteous will stop for a moment and seek out the real righteousness that should be in place. All those so called individuals are told to be set as God is set apart and be like their God. lol lol Maybe they are like their God, I do not know and that they will have to answer for you.

Do have a good day.

Based on all the answers here, you see, even Christians have dif responses. Some annoyed by your aggressiveness, others simply being civil. I'll bet other people from other faiths have their own personal responses, notwithstanding what their Prophets or the Bible say.

I believe it has to do with the primal fear, something we all have to work thru along the way in our lives. Homosexuality is a no no in the Bible, but God didn't make them so.

My tone would be civil as well here, if you have not already read it as so. I would not condemn anyone. I would accept them but I would also have them seek professional help. Big time issues of anger, shame, guilt needs a long time to find even some resolution.

I don't believe God created homosexuals.....

I do believe they choose that lifestyle to an extent (maybe some humans have kind of biologically evolved to that state...who knows.)

Oh well...honestly doesn't bother me much either way. I'm not God, not gonna pretend I'm God and sit around condemn them for being gay or lesbian. I don't agree with others "thinking" they're God and thinking they have the "right" to condemn anyone else for their actions or lifestyles. IMHO, that is NOT a Christian person's job...nor is it a very "Christ-like" thing to do. Yes...preach the word of God (as you understand him)...but leave the condemning to God and his final judgement.

I think homosexuality is a combination of both nature and nurture.

I suspect it may be a natural braking system within a species to help try and keep the species population in check. (In the wild, individual animals with a homosexual slant will produce less young, obviously. I don't think it applies as well with modern humans, since they have alternative means of having children, like artificial insemination, for instance.)

Please capitalize God-He is the one and only, lowercase talking about any other, but not Him. He does not condemn the people, but the sin. God did not create homosexuality-Satan did to pervert God's perfect plan for wholesome relationships. If people were meant to be homosexual a everyone would have the same parts that fit together-they don't. A penis fits in a vagina-period. Sex does not work any other way. If you can't accept that God didn't create homosexuality, you have to accept that guys fit with girls-not guys with guys or girls with girls.

All of us are created by God and each of us will have our own trials and tribulations. I believe being 'gay' is one of them.

Your argument on 'not a conscious choice' can be applied to all sexual deviation like paedophilia and bestiality and even other conditions like kleptomania and sadism.

The history of how 'gay' or 'homosexuality' became 'normal' is mired with controversy and intense lobbying. Was the conclusion that being 'gay' is 'normal' came about because of scientific research or psychologists was under pressure by gay activist movements. There's a lot to think about.

GOD NEVER CREATED A HOMOSEXUAL! GOD CREATED HUMANS IN TWO FORMS, MALE AND FEMALE. HE CREATED THE TWO GENDERS SO WE CAN HAVE MORE HUMANS. HOMOSEXUALS CREATED THEMSELVES. THEY CAN'T STOP THE TEMPTATION SET BEFORE THEM AND HAVE DECIDED TO BE WITH THE SAME SEX. GAYS HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. THEY WILL ALLOWS BE HERE. I DON'T THINK THEY ARE BAD PEOPLE, I HAVE GAY FRIENDS. BUT SINCE THEY HAVE "COME OUT OF THE CLOSET" THEY SEEM TO WANT ALL THE RULES CHANGED, MAKING THE REST OF US TO HAVE TO EXCEPT THEIR SEXUAL PREFERENCE. IF MY GAY FRIEND LOVES HIS PARTNER AND LIVES WITH HIM AND SLEEPS WITH HIM, FINE. BUT THAT DOESN'T GIVE HIM THE RIGHT TO FORCE OUR SOCIETY TO CHANGE THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE, WHICH FROM THE START HAS ALWAYS BEEN A VOW MADE TO EACH OTHER BEFORE GOD.
I PERSONALLY BELIEVE GAYS HAVE A CHOICE. I USE TO BE ATTRACTED TO FEMALES BUT MADE THE CONSCIOUS DECISION NOT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHAT I WANT TO DO OR NOT AND I PRAY THAT I WILL CHOOSE WHAT GOD WANTS ME TO DO. WHAT PISSES ME OFF IS PEOPLE WHO CONSTANTLY SAY THAT GOD CREATED GAYS. HE DIDN'T. HE GAVE US FREE WILL AND WE ARE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT MORAL AND IMMORAL. WE DO THAT BY KNOWING HIS RULES. I PERSONALLY DON'T KNOW IF MY GAY FRIENDS WILL GO TO HELL. IF THEY DO I DON'T THINK IT'S JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE LIVING A GAY LIFESTYLE, IT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THAT AND ALL THE OTHER IMMORAL THINGS THEY HAVE DONE. ONLY GOD KNOWS WHERE WE WILL END UP. I HONESTLY DID ALOT OF SOUL SEARCHING AND PRAYING ABOUT MY ATTRACTION TO FEMALES. IN THE END I CHOOSE NOT TO PHYSICALLY DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. PEOPLE NOWADAYS HAVE JUST DECIDED TO SAY "THE HELL WITH IT ALL" AND DO WHATEVER THEY WANT AND WHATEVER FEELS GOOD. WHEN WE DIE WE WILL KNOW IF OUR SELFISH DECISIONS WERE THE RIGHT ONES OR NOT. PEOPLE CHOOSE TO LIVE IN SIN ALL THE TIME AND DURING THEIR ENTIRE LIFE. DOESN'T MEAN THAT WHAT THEY DID WAS RIGHT. IT'S ALL SINFUL.

that's entertainment.... there are even homosexual animals... as we know they are sinless, only god could have made them homos. that is just sick

easy for people to say homosexuality is a choice...

god chose which people are to survive with noah. in the flood. why would he choose someone that was flawed?

this was also a choice... by god that is:
Exodus 14:4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD." And they did so.

lets play blind now.
