Could be cracked from dryness, or vitamin deficiency, first try Vaseline for a couple of days and see if it gets better. Otherwise see a dentist.

It sounds to me like a cold sore. If it started out as an itchy yet invisible nuisance and then became visible and sort of a bumpy looking thing that burns and cracks open and bleeds when dry, then more than likely, that's what it is. There are over the counter creams for this and they do help speed the healing process. Ask your pharmacist which one he recommends. I use Abreva available at all drug stores. If you have prescription coverage from your insurance see your doc and ask him to prescribe some Zovirax "for cold sores". It's the best. However, if you're really not sure what it is you have.....definitely go see your doctor and don't kiss anybody till it's gone. : )

My daughter is just getting over this. It is a cold sore, called herpes simplex. It can come out with stress, when you have a cold or fever, too much exposure in the sun.
My daughter has had hers since last Tuesday and it is just now scabbed over. Please know, this is contagious. So don't kiss anyone or drink after anyone unless you want them to get this too. Once you have it, you always will and it will stay dormant in your body until things happen to make it come out again. (like stress, ect...)
As far as how you got it, well, that is easy. Someone sneezing, or someone kissed you, who knows. It spreads just like a common cold. It is painful, my daughter wouldn't eat hardly anything. There is nothing a doc can give you for it. There is lip treatments at stores like Walmart, Targer, Walgreens. Try Abreva, or something like that. It will help it heal a little faster and scab over sooner. It worked on my daughter.
Just take care of yourself and lots of rest, and plenty of fluids. This is what her doctor told us.
Hope you are feeling better.

It might be caused by an overgrowth of yeast, or a fungal infection, in which case you will need a prescription from your doctor or dentist applied 3 times a day to get rid of it. The prescription we use is called Mytrex. It is an anti-fungal medication, If you have any anti-fungal cream at home try it for a few days and see if it improves. Good luck.

It could be many things but sometimes when there is a problem at the side of the mouth where the lips meet it's a fungus overgrowth. If that's the case, you need to see a doctor for a culture.

Add up all the answers above and you have a decent list of what it could be. If it doesn't go away, you need a doctor or dentist to tell you what it is and help you get rid of it.

if it doesn't get better in a week it isn't herpes or cold sore. The cure is very simple use Vitamin A+D ointment every day and have a "multivitamin+ mineral" capsule every day.it usually get better in few days but if it doesn`t you need an anti fungal drug such as NYSTATIN or CLOTRIMAZOLE.
