I was taught many years ago that meekness is another way of describing power in control. Jesus, who spoke the universe into existence, controlled His divine power and went to the Cross to save mankind, the ultimate demonstration of meekness.
In my life, meekness means that although I know the Bible well enough to preach hellfire and brimstone and scare people toward the cross, it is better if I just show them the love of Christ through my life and let Jesus lead them to Himself.

Humility is another synonym for meekness. True humility(or meekness) is to know where your gifts lie and to use them boldly for the Glory of God. And to admit when you need help, or admit that you do not excel at some things and someone else would do a better job than you and step aside. Also, to submit yourself to authority when it is appropriate.
In other words the arrogant and the self-sufficient will not inherit the earth.

Meekness is not "weakness", but rather a slave-like submission to God. Your spirit is free from rebellion and pride. It is the hidden man of the heart - a meek and quiet spirit - which is greatly valued by God (I Peter 3:4). Meekness or humility is defined as "freedom from pride and arrogance; modest estimation of our own worth." Humility or meekness is the opposite of pride. The Bible says that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (I Peter 5:5) , and it is the meek which will inherit the earth (Psalm 37:11).

What a good question, and I mean it. I think it means never trying to promote yourself, like....making sure you get noticed, making sure you get heard, making sure your ideas win, making sure people hear you, see you, respect you, speak the correct way to you. Never returning evil for evil. Letting others go first, thinking of others first, all those things.
The bible says that God exalts the humble, but brings down the proud. If we stay in the background, trusting God and giving all glory to Jesus, not trying ever to take any for ourselves, what a life of peace, joy and fulfillment this is. God sees you, and that is all that is necessary.
