I'm 28 years old, never had siblings, don't have any kids so I'm thinking about getting a "sister".
Have you ever been involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters? If so, what's opinion of the program?

Never been involved with the org... however I think it's a great idea. There are plenty of children that need positive attention. Good luck with it!

Big Brothers / Big Sisters is a fantastic organization. You will find that becoming a "big" is a very rewarding experience. Unfortunately, the process can be rather cumbersome but this to ensure that child predators are not getting into the program. I’m not sure if the screening process is different for each chapter but be prepared to provide references, be subject to a background investigation and you will probably even have someone form the program visit your home. Anyone who lives in your home will also be subject to a background investigation. If you don’t have a problem with any of this I would definitely suggest becoming a “big”, not only is it personally rewarding but you will make a world of difference for your “little”

I was interested in becoming a Big Sister, but like someone else said the registration is a huge procedure. Entirely understandable because there are alot of weirdos & creeps out there. There is a commitment necessary, which I wasn't able to guarantee. If you live in NYC, you may want to look into NYCares -if commitments are problem for you. Lots of different volunteer opportunities. I've been a member for 6 years.

Talks alot:no she keeps to herself most of the time. She does confer with the man roses although. and she or he does not confer with adult males in any respect. She hates them and are apprehensive of them. I did not raise my daughter, but I got her signed up with Big Sisters. She's 26 now and still keeps in contact with the lady. It was a real confidence booster for her.
