I have to say yes. And I have been on both sides of this coin. I recently lost 85 lbs. Now that I am in a normal weight range, I notice that I am a happier person in general. I feel much better about myself and am more confident. Also I have noticed that people treat people differently when they are a normal weight. When I was heavy it was like peopl were afraid to approach me, and now people come talk to me all the time.

I don't think so. I've been heavy most of my adult life. I've also battered depression. My first symptoms of depression showed up when I was in high school, which is actually when I was at my thinnest.
Don't get me wrong, I'm usually happier with myself and therefore happier with the world in general when I'm thinner, but I don't think it really affects my mood, per se.
Plus, I've been going to the gym 2-3x a week for over 3 weeks and I don't feel any different. I love how doctors say "If you exercise, you'll feel better physically and mentally." Not for me, not yet anyway.

I would have to say yes. Since I've lost 45 pounds, I feel much better and am a lot happier. My self esteem has improved tremendously. I think those fat people on TV shows that say they like the way they are citing attractive "curves" and such are blowing smoke.

Absolutely! There is extreme pressure and prejudice against the overweight in this country (USA). Overweight people are looked on as stupid, lazy slobs without will power which actually isn't true. That's enough to alter anyone's mood - down.

yes it can, do to the way people are looked at and judged, it can make a person feel depressed, worthless etc. also an over weight person can seem to be mean or snappy simply because they fear rejection so there fore they put up a guard to keep from getting hurt

Overweight people are usually depressed.
It is a vicious cycle ,people make fun of them ,that hurts their feelings .
Most obese don`t have intimate relations so they find love in eating.
Comfort food ,so to speak. This in turn makes them gain even more weight and here we go again.
Its a sad situation because a lot of obese people are kind and intelligent .It`s a shame they can`t find happiness and we can`t stop judging.

Yes, it can affect you mentally, and alter your confidence. Also, excersize proves to be a great stress reliever. I can verify that, because thats what I use to release my stress.
