I'm having this problem in the town I live in right now. I have had people, proclaiming they are Christian, tell me I'm going to fry in hell because I don't believe in what they believe in. I'm just starting on my Buddhist path, and I found their comments really offensive. So, I ask now: WHY?

Congratulaions, George, I just reported you to Yahoo! for your comment. I will not tolerate abusive language towards myself or anyone else. Plus, it's bad for your Karma. Namaste!

I am also a buddhist. Find comfort in these words:

"By oneself is evil done; by oneself is one defiled. By oneself is evil left undone; by oneself is one made pure. Purity and impurity depended on oneself; no one can purify another"

"Overcome the angry by non-anger; overcome the wicked by goodness; overcome the miser by generosity; overcome the liar by truth"

"It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell"

"Like a solid rock is not shaken by the wind, so the wise are not moved by praise or blame"

"Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others"

Do not deviate from the path, do not let them weaken your resolve.

Whistle Brit: Buddhists do not try to get close to god in any way, our goal is to destroy the ego, the source of our worldly desires. God plays no role in Buddhism. Buddha said not to believe nor to disbelieve in any god. The yogas are hindu, they are a way to become one with Brahman, the universal force that they believe is present inside of everything on earth. Kind of like God.

I wonder this too. I have a theory that they suffer from two problems that they make our problem with their behaviors. First, they probably are the type of people who become brainwashed easily. Some people can be brainwashed, others cannot. Second, they must get some sort of superiority complex by thinking they can save you, and you are doomed without them. Just a guess.

May you find peace and wisdom on your Buddhist path. If it feels right to you, it is.

Christians are the most judgmental people you will ever come across, totally against what Jesus ever proclaimed, go figure. The wonderful thing about our country, if this is the United States of course is freedom of religion. Preach that to these hypocrites!

The Christian faith teaches us to try and save people from eternal seperation from God i.e. get them to believe in Jesus. But the Bible says we, as Christians, should not judge at all and try to not force our beliefs onto others. I'm sorry you met such a bad representation of my faith :3 good luck with your buddhist path

I'm glad you said "some" Christians. To me it seems totally futile, to try and talk somebody into believing something that they obviously don't have any interest or knowledge about.

It's like when the Jehovah Witnesses knock on my door.
It really annoys me to be pestered in my own home by somebody like that.

I believe that, when Christ comes, it won't be hard to convince the world of who He is. Until then, I prefer to live and let live.

It's not just Buddhists. It's all non-Christians. They just feel it is their duty to "inform" us non-Christians about our fate. Sadly, they really do believe what they are saying. If you thought someone was going to go to hell, you would probably try to stop them if there was anything you could do. That is where they are coming from. They are just misguided.

right here enable me make it undeniable and easy for you.. Christianity isn't seen a faith. this is besides the fact that a fellowship and a relationship with the writer of all living. God despatched Christ to die on a pass for all of the sins of mankind and people who come to HIM in faith believing, God literal imparts His Holy Spirit and He comes and dwells in the believer inflicting Him to be "Born returned". The old sinful nature is lifeless and the believer will become a newborn of the living God to which God has washed His or Her sins away by no skill to bear in techniques them ever returned, and from that day forward, prepares that individual for to rule and reign with Christ in this earth for one thousand years (Revelation 20). anybody who does not obtain this new delivery or rejects the flexibility of the Holy Spirit, regardless of of what worldwide faith they do or do no longer belong won't enter the dominion of Christ. they are going to die of their very own sins and take part in the 2nd dying to it is the Lake of hearth. The e book of life will carry the very names of people who had given their lives to Christ at the same time as alive in this earth and whomsoever call isn't discovered written therein is solid alive into the lake of hearth (Revelation 20:15) The Antichrist will unite all worldwide religions and worldwide governments unto himself and he will reason all to obtain a mark of possession unto him with the intention to purchase or sell something, those returned who obtain this mark will coach they do no longer belong to God. If each Christian might purely have faith and do what God has reported in His holy be conscious, then we'd see greater of heaven on earth, yet all in due time.

Don't feel too picked on -- christians feel the need to preach to and try to convert EVERYBODY, even other christians if they don't happen to be in the same exact sect.

It's insecurity -- as long as there's anybody in the world that doesn't believe EXACTLY as they do, then they're afraid they might possibly be wrong. They figure if they convert everybody in the world, then they must be right...so they keep trying.
Frankly I wish they'd spend their time re-examining their hypocrtical, illogical, ridiculous fairy-tale based beliefs instead of trying to get the rest of us to join their delusion :)

they (the Christians who tell you that you are going to hell, not all Christians) are close minded and don't understand that a religion is a tool used to help people lead a better life. no reliegion is right or wrong. keep doing what is best for you. All people should learn to be respectful of others beliefs.

Ignorance. Christianity and buddhism have the same goals just different ways of expressing them. we all seek a closer conscious contact with GOD,Buddha sought enlightenment through knowledge,,jesus sought enlightenment through LOVE. there are three other basic pathways to GOD but I can't recall the name of them. One is hatha yoga (POSTURE),yoga means union.
