It's probably from the change in food. You need to give him dewormer once a month no matter what. Not just when you think he has them.

Take him to a vet with a stool sample. Worms don't cause a mucus in my experience.
Eliminate the possible sources of the worms and continue worming your dog.

Take him to the Vet and find out what kind of worms he has. If it is a tapeworm, it is from investing a flea and is easily fixed by a pill or two from your vet. I haven't heard of the mucus lining thing, so I know I would get with my Vet.

Did the Vet diagnose him with worms or did you see the worms and buy an over the counter wormer for him? I ask this because over the counter wormers may not be treating the type of worm your dog has.
Please take a fecal sample to the Vet and have it checked. They will be able to give you a quality wormer to help him.
Remember, the key is to clean up after he "goes" immediately.

Hope I helped and good luck!

If little white worms looking like rice come out whe he poops, it is tapeworms. You will need meds from a vet to get rid of. Dogs get them by swallowing an infected flea, so even after treatment, if he swallows another flea, he will get them again. After you give him meds, keep him on a flea preventive.
