I heard this from a friend who is Jewish. Obviously I understand that Jews don't believe the Messiah has come yet, but isn't it good that Messianic Jews at least follow the Jewish faith with the exception that they believe Jesus is the Messiah, than to just call themselves Christians and abandon the Jewish faith altogether. I was just confused on this... not sure what my friend meant when he said 'Jews for Jesus are shameful'. Maybe just because they believe Jesus is the Messiah?

I think the sentiment comes from the perception by Jews that Messianic Jews are deceitful. This perception is not altogether unjustified. There has been a history of deceitful methods among Messianics in their attempts to convert other Jews.

For example, they will go to college campuses and pretend to be regular Jews and then they try to get a name and number of the Jewish students. They then contact them and try to convert them. They often use subtle methods to lure the unsuspecting people in. They prey on the weak, such as people in nursing homes.

They have every right to what they believe, and I do understand that they feel led to try to convert their Jewish brethren, but I think their methods have been less than honorable in the past. Some of them even changed their names to sound more "Jewish" and one guy even made up an Orthodox Rabbinic ordination to defraud people.

We don't like them much for several reasons:
1)They are not Jewish. Believing that Jesus is the Messiah, and further more- the son of god, is a concept that opposes the Jewish essence. One cannot believe in Jesus as the Messiah and consider oneself Jewish. This thought is indicates a big misunderstanding in Judaism, and following the Jewish traditions is a nice thing, but if you do not understand the meaning of being Jewish- it is meaningless.
2)We feel kind of betrayed. Those so called Jews are closer to Christians more than to the Jewish faith, and they make us look pretty bad "far di goyim", making the statement that we are wrong.
3)It feels to us like a manipulative trick to attract Jews to the Christian faith.

first off it is my feelings i know everyone will not agree...
Jews for J-sus got in trouble not to long ago for putting Jackie Mason on their brochure without asking http://www.jewsforjesus.org/ I have not been told the best things of Jews For J-sus.

As for Messianic Jewish we study the Bible, and we do the practices of the Jewish people, which i love where i am, it has been a wonderful thing, they sing in Hebrew, and i feel at home there..

But i also love the Orthodox..i do not think i am better i see their points..and i respect and think they could teach me alot about stuff.

Being christian wasn't that much to me i felt something in my life was missing and after my grandma died i had to find somewhere to belong.

The Jewish people no matter if they believe in Messiah or not they know the bible, and they know it well because it is their people.

Christian people are a little different in the fact they seem to separate off the Jewish people from them..somehow they dont think that we believe the Jewish people could be around them..

I feel there is to many religions and to many people trying to prove they are the best and its not about that..it wasn't about that when J-sus was here, and its not about that now, its about us loving one another and getting along..

good question. here's the answer:
The main point which many people don't realize (especially so called "messianic jews") is that "messianic judaism" is NOT Judaism + Jesus; it is Christianity + Jewish Blood.
There is nothing about it which is "jewish" besides the fact that *some* of its members are israelites. (Simple demonstration: Real judaism is based on the talmud; "messianic judaism" rejects the talmud.)

other than that, they're a shameful group for the deceptive tactics that are often employed to lure people into it, amongst other things.

Jesus is the shame. He was one of many Messianic men at that time. That he did not have an army already to burn Rome and all its waste of goods, and people proves he was no savior. That Jesus has to be invited into the homes of the Chosen also is another point against him. That we totally expect him to make himself at home and sit down to our feasts reeks of hypocrisy, yet that is what we are supposed to think? Being Jewish is not a banner of pride, like being black or hispanic is striving to be. As a follower of Jesus and a Jew I understand why Jesus told his mother at the wedding feast that it was not his time yet because he was expecting to get that Army! That he recieved something so much greater seems to fall on deaf ears everywhere, even with the Cheistians and their inability to love until shown that love is worth the expenditure.

Different Jews believe different ways. Some Jews get very upset if their child marries a non jew. I think they feel that if the Messianic Jew has read their Torah they would not believe in a savior. Hosea 13:4.

they are not Jews because Jew's do not believe the messiah has come yet. they don't believe Jesus so believing in Jesus and putting forward your Jewish obviously contradicts one yet another.... that's unhappy that there are those Evangelist Christians that call themselves "Jews". provide up this custom now, your disgracing both Judaism and Christianity.

Better a Jew just outright convert then join that group.
There is no such thing as Messianic Judaism it is a deceitful organization specifically targeting Jews, with a weak Judaic background, for conversion.

Messianic Jew or complete Jew as some call their selves are Jew by birth but no longer practices the Jewish religion. They consider themselves Born-Again Christians. I have a great friend that is a bible scholar and teacher. Fredrick Schmidt. One great person.
