im upgrading the engine on my 62 ford ranchero... from a 170 inline to a 250... can i use the same distributer or do i have to buy a different one.. if so what size

I think they are the same,the 250 crossflow could be different though.Try it and see.

They are both inline 6's, Believe it or not at one time auto manufacturers used the same part for every engine, they just changed bore and stroke. Now there is a different part number for the exact same part, just a different engine..

Oh ya to answer your Q yes they are interchangable.....

I always thought the 144,170,200,250 were pretty much the same depending on the year for the vaccum advance.
To me it should work, it the engine takes the same oil pump it will work.

It is different. You may have some operational problem if you install it and it may or may not fit. I suggest you buy th correct one but have a professional verify it.
