If you sit on the seat for too long, would it damage your penis???

It is likely.

But, it is not mandatory.

This explains the "Saddle Box" that most cyclists have in the attic or garage.

Most saddles will commit "Penis Attack!" or "Butt Attack!" or both. These are removed and go into the "Saddle Box" where they are stored.

The worst saddles have:
1) Soft padding
2) A flat underneath side

It doesn't matter how much a saddle is padded, but it must be FIRM padding or it will knock your penis out cold.

It doesn't matter how wide a saddle is as long as the bones in your rear can both contact it simultaneously, AND that the sides are curved, not squared.
Some makers hide a cheap platform by using extra foam. Look at the underside, to be sure that the edges are rounded--never straight out with a sharp edge to cut off circulation.

Bicycle style has a lot to do with it because of the following factor:

"Handlebar height is proportional to and facilitates saddle type."

This means that taller handlebars go with wider saddles and that wider saddles aren't AS successful if the bike is very areodynamic.

Here's 3 different ways of fit. . .and their effects on your body.

Euro Fit:
This bike: Diamondback Winwood / Edgewood will go fast on road or trail, go long distances, and never hurt your penis. Why? It is an Americanized variety of "Dutch Bike" or a transportation bike. And, that blessed Avenir saddle.
This is fast enough to keep up with the road touring club and as comfy as a cruiser.
*Fit is made difficult because of the sloping top tube's effect on appearance. Because of that, a proper fit will show a large amount of seat post sticking up. However, an over-large fit resulting from a traditional "standover height" measure would be considerably slower (as usual if you happen to get one that's too big).
*While the Euro fit or Dutch fit is difficult to size (get it small) the reach is short and narrow, which isn't very areodynamic, yet can almost fully make up for that lack by sheer leverage and adjustability. This bike type places almost no stress whatsoever on your body and facilitates extreme long distances upwards of 200 miles.

With the road bike, there's two forms of fit.

Lance:
His Trek puts the handlebars closer to your waist and farther down. This makes your back feel good, eliminates the chance of spinal injury, and makes it easy to pedal standing. Spinning pedals is considerably easier. Straight down arms aren't areo, but the position does increase leverage. This seat position increases the chances of penis injury, but the "cutout" saddles can prevent that problem.
*This bike makes you push "UP"
*This bike fit can work for up to 100 miles; however, the normal maximum is 75 miles. It is necessary to spend some time "out of the saddle" pedaling because of circulation issues. The close, low bars, make "out of the saddle" pedaling MUCH easier to do.
*Trek 1000 and Schwinn Le Tour new models evidence the "Lance" fit plus some additional comfort.

Traditional or (Up and Out):
This will have the handlebars farther away, but slightly higher. In trips over 40-60 miles, spine damage can occur. These bikes are extremely areodynamic with the body stretched out far across the top. They are highly resistant to headwinds and love to make fast sprints. However sustainable flat ground speeds are lower than Lance's design. The traditional bike, now called "Breakway Style" after the few brave souls that are durable and strong enough to push one will not harm your penis, but it will cause permanant spinal disease.
*This bike makes you push "BACK"
*This bike fit starts spine damage at 60 miles, but it feels quite comfortable on trips 40 miles and less. It will not harm your penis.
*A similar bike is the "Mini Breakaway" or "Little Sprinter" which is just the same thing, but 2 sizes smaller and equipped with an extra-long steerer tube from custom cut forks. Identify these by the 2 inches of stack rings on the stem. These have no mileage limitation, somewhat poor areodynamics, greatly enhanced leverage, and they will not harm your penis (combination between Lance fit and Dutch fit--short reach). Specialized Roubaix is a "little sprinter" but it is very important for a 6 foot tall man NOT to get the size 58 when the 56 or 54 is the healthier ride.

The Specialized store has a new fitting tool, recently nicknamed the "Assometer" and I suppose the name was unavoidable. It can reduce the amount of trial and error towards getting a good fitting saddle.

There is always the possibility I suppose. I've seen research that suggests the split saddles or those with a cut out are the way to go to prevent erectile dysfunction. I've also heard that some of the cut out seats were actually bad for you. Really it is a matter of finding the saddle that is comfortable for you and making sure it is properly adjusted. I went thru about 6 or so saddles before finding one I liked (selle italia turbomatic 3). By the time I wore it out, the design changed slightly and the great saddle hunt was on again. I currently ride the Specialized toupe saddle in the 130mm width. It's narrow & not a lot of padding but so far I've had no problems. According to Specialized, their saddles are set with the back of the seat level so it rides slightly nose high. The idea is that this keeps you on the back of the saddle where you are supposed to be so the split/cut out does its thing. My saddle is set a little nose low because it is more comfortable to me when I'm in the drops.

I've been cycling for about 16 years and can count on two fingers how may times I have actually pinched something. It's really rare especially when you wear the appropriate clothing.
As for medical problems it is well documented that long hours on the saddle can lead to circulatory problems and impotence.
This, too, is easily avoided by using a good seat and having a proper bike fit. They even have seats with holes or soft gel centers to avoid pressure points.

Having a very soft seat can cause major problems. When your seat is soft enough that you sinkk down in it, it cuts off the blood supply to your genetal parts. Even though the seat may seem more confortable it can be causing major, perminant problems.

Getting a grooved saddle can aleviate this some, but the seat still needs to be firm enough that you are sitting on it and not in it.

Find a saddle that is comfortable! There is a saddle for everyone. Also, get a bike fit if you are on the bike for extended periods of time. Improper fit could lead to problems, but if fit correctly there shouldnt be a problem. Also, go by how you feel! If it goes numb then there is a problem.

Actually on road bikes men have gone impotent because the seat put to much pressure and crushed their penile artery. So it is very possible. Now they make seats that have the centers cut out so that the artery sits in that area and does not get crushed. Though I have sliped pedals more than once and landed on the top tube only to have my berrys not feeling to good.

Proper fit is the key,,, I often ride for 6-8 hours in training and no problem. Stand up every so often and get blood flowing in the region once and a while

Many of the causes of erectile dysfunction are actually psychological. Understand that this is not the same as saying that it’s all in your head, because it’s not. Learn here https://tr.im/mEwhb

Psychological issues can easily lead to a variety of very real physical ailments. If that surprises you, it shouldn’t. Stress can lead to heart disease, so why can’t other psychological issues lead to ED? It’s a pretty common, fairly well understood phenomenon.

Stress is, in fact, one of the leading causes of ED, which makes it a particularly nasty condition (because it also can lead to heart troubles, so it hits you twice). Long before stress kills you though, it will impact your sex life in a major, and entirely negative way.

Having the seat height, forward and aft draft, and up and down pitch adjusted properly should aleviate most problems. Make sure you are properly fitted to the correct bicycle frame size.

No. It helps to shift your weight, specially for long rides. Also, some saddles have a groove or chanel that aleviates some pressure from that area.
