here is a serious question,,,,how do cashew nuts grow??

i have never seen a cashew in a shell, or seen how they grow or even where they grow,,,,,so i am curious,,,,

Here's the scoop. They grow near the equator, so unless you live there, you won't have seen them growing. There is a fluid inside the shell that causes irritation and even blistering of the skin or mouth, so they are not sold in the shell.

The tree is a large, spreading tropical evergreen, 30 to 40 feet high, and spreading up to 60 feet. The leaves are oval or obovate, leathery, 4 to 8 inches long and half as wide. The cashew nuts grow by undergoing cellular mitosis and division and all that stuff that I forgot in 8th grade biology. I don't really remember all that junk. Just some wierd vocabulary. That's all I actually know.

The nut you eat is actually an appendage of the cashew bean. It grows outside of the shell. It grows in subtropical climate. It is not actually a nut but an outgrowth of the nut. How anyone figured out that you eat that instead of the nut itself is beyond me.
