because it is a standard rule of cookouts: 2 hot dogs always get ruined or are deemed 'bunless'.
Scenario #1: you are roasting on an open bonfire. there are ALWAYS 2 kids that drop their dogs in the fire. that leaves 8 in thepack.
Scenario #2: those 2 kids roast their dogs successfully BUT they are the brats that don't want theirs on a bun...they want it diced up with ketchup.
Scenario #3: you have a literal "dog" like mine that likes to eat everything made of meat. in that case, the extra 2 hotdogs are placed in the pack for hungry pets.
those are just my personal suggestions...they were not highly researched

cost effectiveness and packaging efficiency. I am sure at the beginning the 'bun people' and hot dog people' did not collaborate- now it can be used as an effective ploy to may you buy 4 packs of hot dogs and 5 packages of buns to increase their profits and balance things out ! :)

this is all a advertising and marketing rip-off for my section. on condition that warm canines are available in applications of 8, the makers of warm dogs buns desperate to sell them in applications of 6. this form you specifically have 2 left over warm canines and choose extra buns. Thats basically my opinion nonetheless.

Usually at a cookout some one will drop a couple of hotdogs on the ground and get them dirty.

Then I'm left with 6 hot dog buns..that never go bad ... no matter how long I keep them...
You ever notice that Hot Dog Buns never go bad..
What's up with that?
