Shelled sea animals found along the shores are oftentimes studied to be the filters of many small debris from the ocean, such as clams, oysters and even mussels. Shrimps were called scavengers of the sea by some religious group. I really do not know about the lobsters but it could have the same findings.

Various seafood are filters for the sea, they clean the sea. This is why it is unhealthy to eat seafood (not all fish, but shellfish, mollusks, etc. which cause high cholesterol). It's their appointed job in life to clean the sea, as it is also unhealthly and unwise to eat a buzzard (eats roadkill, other dead animals). Mice, rats, etc. wouldn't be a good choice, either. We are also not to eat pork, for the same reasons as a pig will eat snakes, and other venamous creatures. The venom stays in their system until it is released from the pods of their feet, which in turn is trampled under foot, and reabsorbed into their bodies. God instructed us not to eat these things for a reason. If people were to follow the instructions He gave us, we would have healthy lives (i.e., no heart disease, no high cholesteral, no blood diseases as diabetes, leukemia, cancers, etc.). Ask any doctor, he will tell you seafood (as good as it tastes) is very unhealthy for you, and pork 'ain't so great for you, either'. Animals that eat the blood of other animals are also a no-no.

It is forbidden to eat some shell fish because in ages past they carried diseases. There is clear evidence of this in murals from ancient Egypt, where persons depicted are clearly showing signs of the diseases caused by the infections. Modern sanitation methods make this much less likely, but you can still get the infections from eating shellfish from certain rivers.

Because in the old testament, shell fish was forbidden because it was believe to be unclean. But in the new testament, Peter had a dream showing unclean foods and it was reveal that all foods are clean through Jesus Christ. Some still believe that these items should not be eaten and that's okay but the person who eats them should not be criticized. Paul stated that if your brother is weak and abstained from eating these items do not eat these items in front of him because you do not want to make him "stumble."

Because lobsters, oysters and other bottom-feeders eat scraps of stuff that's already dead, I think.

But one thing I don't understand is...don't fish do the same thing?

Because Moses said not to eat shellfish.

(Leviticus 11:9-12; Deuteronomy 14:9-10)

In response to the question posed by "tjreamer" below, Christians do not keep kosher because Jesus, Paul & Peter all said that we did not have to follow the Mosaic kosher food laws anymore under the New Testament. In the very same passages, Jesus, Peter & Paul also warned us to avoid sexually immorality.

See Mark 7:1-23; Acts 10:1-29 & 15:1-35; I Corinthians 6:12-20.

In Judaism, the Torah has specific rules against eating anything from the sea that doesn;t have fins or scales. The reason for this rule is unclear. Jews simply do it because thats what it says.

Actually it is in the Old Testament ..but Xians choose to ignore that one and for some reason focus on the taboo against homosexuality. Xians are obsessed with sex, I really don't know why. According to the bible it is just as much an "abomination" to eat lobster as it is to have gay sex.

It's not. That's just an old verse in the Bible. We use it
sometimes to show how human beings are prone to
extremism, (emotionalism). Like homo bashing, and all the blah, blah , blah, and forgeting gay people have a soul too.
The verse said that eating anything that didin't have scales,
was an "abomination".
