I am interested in studying a language at University and have many choices to choose from. I am getting into the music technology, film and video game industry and wondered which language would be best for this type of course.

I am leaning towards Spanish at the moment as it looks easier for me and have been inspired from the Goonies :D lol

Depends on what type of music you want to do. French and Spanish are good languages to learn in general. Just for life, not just music.

If you specifically want to learn a language that will help you with music, you can choose Italian, since many music notations are written in Italian. Chances are that you know this already.

However, I'm not sure that the choice of langauge you study will have much bearing on your future career. Perhaps you can choose based on other factors. Enjoy language learning!

Spanish sounds good. Think about languages that a majority of countries speak... you could also study French. However, when you say the "video game industry" I think you could benefit from learning Chinese or Japanese.

Latin, or Italian, but music often has instructions in other foreign languages. You might be better off to take a class in music terminology in foreign languages if one is offered. Remember that the first written music was written by Gregorian Monks, so they're instructions would be in Latin, and Latin is the root of four other languages that are also used in music.

Italian is not the "language of love" as one person wrote, but it is very heavily used in music.

All commonly used musical terms (allegro, mosso, glissendo, coda, etc.) are Italian words, and Opera is usually sung in Italian. If classical music is your field of study, then Italian is a good choice. After that, German would be a good second with the number of German and Austrian composers and orchestras.

you should chose a language that would be best for your major, not because you watched goonies (though it was a kick a.s.s. movie and the coming language of this nation)

Italian. It is the language of love and most songs are about love.
