God views the Soul and Spirit very differently.
In the New Testament, the word for spirit is "pneuma" while the word for soul is "psyche" . Immediately we can see where the English words for pneumonia and psychiatry come from. The bible tells as (and modern science also confirms that we are made up of three distinct parts: Soul, Spirit and body.
According to the bible, we are DEAD in trespass and sin before we accept Jesus Christ.
Ephes. 2:1
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
Since we have beating hearts, this reference can only refer to how God views us BEFORE he rescues us. When we are dead spiritually we have no communication with God (unless he initiates it) and we do not comprehend the things that are spiritual. The spirit is that part of man that can grasp and perceive spiritual things.
Soul on the other hand is our intellect, reasoning, will and personality. The things that make us who we are (separate from the distinguishing characteristics of our bodies). Some of us have nice humanly acceptable souls and some of us have despicable ones – no matter, as long as we are "dead in our sins" they both end up the same place – hell. Those who have renewed Spirits regardless of how despicable they may appear go to heaven (remember the thief on the cross – despicable soul but in the end a renewed spirit- destination; heaven)!

There is no difference between soul and spirit. There are synonymous. But words cannot adequately describe it, and our material senses, eyes, eyes, nose, etc, cannot perceive it. Nevertheless spirit soul is our real identity. We are not the material body that we are now inhabiting. The body is a bag of chemicals only and it is never alive at any time. It is only when the spirit soul enters the body does the body become animated and is called 'alive' and when the spirit soul leaves the body we call that 'death'. To perceive the presence of the spirit soul in the body requires us to purify our consciousness and this is called self-realization. This is a very old science, practiced by sages and saintly persons since time immemorial. You can get more info from the Bhagavad-gita, available online at this link.

They are the same - but spirit is the drive or love of life. Your soul records your life, well your soul grows stronger as you age, to help when times are hard, also.
"Team spirit" is the groups drive to win, and "Don't kill your child's spirit" - happens when you (or the community) fail to support a child growing with courage and desire to accomplish things. A child told she/he CAN'T do this or that - will not be able to. While a child told she/he CAN - will do amazing things!
Your soul lets you see the truth in people or situations, where others can be confused. The spirit gives people the courage to stand against wrongs of the world.
Spirit = morale. The positive feelings a community has in itself. A persons soul answers to GOD for what that person did during their life. Sorry my babbling just confused you more, ha.

If you go back and read Genesis when God created man it explains that soul and spirit are 2 different things. God is a spirit and he created man in his own image and added a physical body. Then when he gave the physical body "breath" man became a living soul. Just read Genesis chapters 1-4. The new testament also says that the soul and spirit can be divided that proves that they are 2 different things. Reading the bible brings answers to questions. Only speaking from 40 years of reading. :)

Soul is your essense of a being, which truly defines who you are inside, a soul is a combination of a mind and a spirit. A spirit is just a spirit, it is separate from mind and body.
Those phrases have entirely different meaning from the above definition, the usage is completely different, having high spirit means being in good mood or state.
Losing spirit = lose excitement, don't kill you child's spirit=don't discourage your child.

The distinction between spirit and soul came up during the forming of Judeo-Christian religious terminology.
Essentially the spirit forms during life and is akin to the psyche/morale (courage) whereas the soul is a preexistent and eternal body that also links with the psyche and morals(values).
Read all about it in wiki though, they explain it much clearer than I can because like most people I interchange the two quite often.
On a funny note, we all use the word spiritual, whereas 'soulical' is nowhere to be found.

Well, let me see. The definition of spirit means pnema, which means breath in the Strong's concordance. Man became a living soul by God breathing into his nostrils the breath of life. The
spirit of life. The air has oxygen in it. The blood in the body needs the oxygen in order for the cells to live and organs to functions.
The becoming a living soul in Genesis means, Adam was aware of his surroundings, he could feel happy, sad, lonely, angry, inquisitive, etc. these adjectives describe his soul thesit of his emotions. Sometimes it's synonymous in use.
All souls belong to God. Is the answer for the statement about, "lose our spirit".
Don't kill your child's spirit means, don't break his self-esteem. The very core of personality and soul.
I lost my mother and father. I thought I lost them. They are alive in me, because I am part of their spirit that is still here.

What you're asking is just a figure of speech. Killing someones
spirit, taking the joy out of thier lives.
The soul is a heavier type of spirit, that looks just like us. It is
still subject to forces at work in Creation.
The spirit is a being of light. What we originally started out as,
and what we return to once we have experienced the things
we wanted to experience.

In general, spirit seems to refer to what I see as a cosmic unifying force which all humans share. We all come from spirit and will become spirit again. Soul, on the other hand, seems to be personal and unique. Your soul is everything, the totality of your experiences, beliefs, personality, and environment.
