books are fine. a representative from the TSA was quoted in a NY Times article saying that chapstick is allowed. when i flew out of Newark, NJ this previous weekend, i asked one of the baggage screeners if chapstick is ok... he told me "it should be fine." (then again, he didn't seem completely sure, which tells me that these screeners probably aren't totally up to date with the new rules.) i think chapstick should be ok, though you might get some overzealous screener at the airport telling you to throw it away; that's just chance and it happens even before the days of the new restrictions.

books are - not sure about chap stick - I think it's just liquid not allowed on now -- shampoo and wine and stuff like that heck not even water call the air lines and they will tell you for sure
