This, for some reason, seems so odd to me!! I just dont think I could share the same toilet as my pet.. LOL
I guess if you say it works, I believe you!

Hi there...yes, cats can actually be toilet trained and there are a bunch who have learned including both of mine and some of my clients kitties. Remember the movie "Meet The Parents?" Jinxy the cat was trained to use a toilet to be caught on film for the world to see. There are many toilet training kits available and City Kitty is only just one of many (e.g. Litter Kwitter, Feline Evolution, etc) and one of the least expensive to use. Some people create their homemade kits which work just as well sometimes even better.

Here's a video someone took of their cat during toilet training. It's nicely done and cute to watch too: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2647927142627159521&q=toilet+trained+cat

Not only can some cats be toilet trained, some have been known to figure it out all by themselves. And that includes flushing afterwards!

It's not such a stretch for a cat. Cats have a strong instinct to bury their scat, so doing it over a hole is natural. Doing it over a hole where it will quickly go away must have considerable appeal for them.

My Rusty used to use sewer grates as toilets; that saved him the trouble of digging a hole and covering up afterwards. When he was convalescing from cancer surgery and had trouble with the stairs he once (at least once that I know of) hopped into the bathtub and peed down the drain. (Yes, I'd given him an upstairs litter box, but I guess he thought it smelled too fresh and clean.)

I often thought that if I'd made a habit of leaving the seat cover up and the seat down when he was young, he might've figured out to use the toilet.

My grandparents have 4 cats that are toilet trained. They flush and everything. They live in a senior complex and the rules said no cats due to the litter smell in the dumpsters!! So, they potty trained them and were allowed in!!!!! It couldn't have been to difficult if they did it. They are OLD!!!!!
They got some manual and a funny "practice" toilet seat that they put on top of the litter box next to the toilet and then progressed from there. It can be done!!!! I have seen it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, people do this. It certainly would be great. I have five cats though and would have to have a portapotty outside for myself if they were all using the toilet!
