Why does my hair feel softer (when dry) after I go swimming at the beach?

Because of the salt in the water. Salt is what is added to home water softening systems...it is a natural "conditioner".

Salt water from the ocean will dry and damage your hair, similar to the chlorine from swimming pools. To take care of hair when you're playing in the ocean make sure you rinse it thoroughly when your finished. Many beaches have showers where you can rinse off.

If your hair feels softer a little later after swimming at the beach then it's because of the shampoo and conditioner you used to get that salt water out of your hair ASAP.

Best wishes
