If a child were to hold his breath for too long, the most that would happen would be that the child passes out, and then starts breathing again.
My dad, evidently, used to do this. My grandma was worried sick about it, and asked the doctor what to do. The doctor told her to let him do it, and not go to him when he passed out or held his breath. The next time he did it, he passed out, fell over, and never did it again because mommy wasn't there when he woke up.

I doubt he's going to do any lasting damage, but if it will make you feel better, you can always contact your doctor. They are used to handling situations like this. Good luck.

He won't die. The worst that will happen is he will pass out from lack of oxygen and then he will start breathing right away. But this is a problem. Have you spoken to your pediatrician about it? It sounds like your son has attachment issues with you. Have you attempted to leave him for a period of time and monitors what happens? At 7 months old, wow. I'm going to watch this question to see what happens.

He may have figured out at an early age how to manipulate you. Yes it is very possible at that age. And all kids try to do it, just not usually at that young an age. You may have an extremely intelligent child on your hands.

It is impossible to die from holding your breath. But you should go ahead and go on the honey moon without him. Giving in to him will only worsen the problem. I'd start out slow by leaving him for 10 minutes and work your way up. He'll eventually get over it. But there's no way he can die from holding his breath.

Okay, the very, very, very worst thing that would happen would be he'd pass his little butt out. But he definetly wouldn't die. I say practice by leaving the room and making him feel comfortable before you do it (with family or somethin) and when you leave the room and he starts doing it do not respond. Showing that your concerned about it will only make him act out more. When you re-enter the room go about your business like you were before you left. And in the highly rare chance that he does pass out, lay him down so the blood can rush back to his head and when he wakes up just be like matter of factly 'well dont do that'.

If he holds his breath and turns blue.. the next step is him passing out. Kids are really smart. They see how you react and since you are concerned/worried (freaking out) they know they can get what they want. He's already starting to push buttons and you need to start setting boundaries. Sometimes you need to just put him in his crib and let him cry/turn blue (work it out for himself). It's okay if a kid passes out... he'll start breathing again on his own.

I am not a doctor, but I have 3 children that have successfully lived through the breath-holding stages. They can only hold their breath until they pass out....Then they will automatically start breathing again. Honestly.

He won't die. He will catch his breath before he passes out. Been there done that. Your son knows how to push ALL of your buttons and get what he wants. Just wait until he hits the "terrible twos". You're going to have a lot of fun NOT...I suggest you stop panicing and let him turn blue. Afterall blue is such a pleasing color

Don't worry. The worst thing that could happen is that he would pass out. If he passed out, he would automatically start breathing again. I doubt he would let himself get to that point. If I hold my breath, eventually I start to panic. His body would probably force himself to start breathing if he started to panic. He can't hold his breathe to death. Hope this helps.

Don't stress about him dieing. As soon as he falls unconscious he will start to breath again. He really has you going. He has found a great way for you to pick him up. Don't come back in I promise he will fall unconscious for a few seconds and immediately start breathing. He will stop it as soon as he realises that this doesn't work. Harsh but it will work

He'll take a breath before passing out. He's just mad that you dared to leave the room without his permission.
