You could be mis-diagnosed. Maybe they think you have depression, but it's really just anxiety or bipolar or something. Yeah, sometimes you'll get side affects but it's all on finding the right meds. It took me a year to find the right one, and the right dose. Now that I have the right pills and dosage, they work miracles and I can live a good healthy life. Without them, I think I'd kill myself- not even kidding. So be patient. And if it's giving you lots of side affects- don't be ridiculas. Get another pill!

Well, trust me, the side effects of anti-depressants are mild compared to the effects of depression! I wanted to die everyday, cut myself and couldn't function at all before I started taking one. They level out imbalances in the brain that are very real. Don't listen to those stupid movie stars like Tom Cruise. Yes they have side effects but most of the time you don't even get them. I don't understand why they put so much effects on the label because rarely do you ever really get them all. Either way, I would have commited suicide if I hadn't taken them, and I will continue or else I'll plunge into a deep depression.

Be careful when you first start taking them because they can increase suicidal thinking; however, give them a chance to work. You may have been depressed for a long time and experience early morning awakenings and think you can't sleep, but a lot of people wake early and go to work and have a normal life. Maybe you just don't know what to do with yourself. You will get used to it. One side affect of depression is suicide.

That's only one side of the story. Antidepressants saved my life! I'm sure there are many other people like me. Depression is a huge black hole that sucks you in and won't let go! You can't just "get over it". It sucks the life out of you.

I may not be here if it wasn't for anti-depressants. I couldn't cope with anything - work, relationships, even leaving the house. I am not ashamed to say that I take them.

just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean that everyone does. let's not ban something based on your personal experience, they help many people

I have Hepatitis"C", my wife took anti depression pills for years before we married. seance then she has cut the dosage down by 95%, I tried to take these pills for my depression and I was to the point of hospital admission but i would not go. that tells me that these drugs aren't good for nobody and the head doctor that gives them out is mistaken.

I wholeheartedly agree but for some they are truly a lifesaver.
