My Siberian Husky scratches her ears non-stop!! She has done this ever since she was a baby. (She is 5 months now.) The vet said she didn't have any infections or anything...why does she do this? She scrathces until they bleed! (And she doesn't have fleas.)

Have the Vet take an ear swab to check for mites. While doing so, he will be able to see if the dog got perhaps burdock inside of the ear.
Some Huskies have really sensitive ears and can easily get infections even if they get water in them. I know it sounds silly since the breed was meant for wet snow but over the years, they have become less adaptable to what was once natural for them.

Hope I helped and Good Luck!

Did your vet check deep into the ear with a scope for ear mites?
If not get mita-clear you can buy it over the counter at most good quality pet stores or at your local vet. Use it once a day for about four days then repeat once a month as a prevention for just a few months. If that doesn't clear up the problem with in the first couple of weeks then get a second opinion from another vet.
And Bekah is right they need a great deal of excercise. Tug of war and pulling things. make a small goat cart get a harness and give the neighborhood kids a ride. Your dog would love it

Hey - I have a Siberian husky, too. :-)

If not fleas or infection, possibly ear mites if she's around cats (most husky's aren't - as they have a natural prey drive and see cats as special kitty treats just for them). Another possibility could be an allergy. Try switching her food (very gradually) over a two week period and be sure it is a premium food (or very high quality store bought like pro-plan or O-N-E are good choices). Worse comes to worse, you can try an e-collar to keep her from itching and see what happens then. Hopefully it's not a neurotic bad habit.

I have no idea, if the vet said no infections or fleas. Something must be going on. Does she have a flea collar on? Maybe one of those cones around her neck would help her break the habit. Hope you find a solution. Siberian Huskies are my favorite breed of dog. I had mine for 12 yrs. He was my baby! The only time his ears bled, was from flies when outdoors. One yr. they were really bad.

Your dog could possibly have ear mites. I would have th vet recheck this. It could possibly be food allergies. you need to look into a high quaility food...now walmart brands or anything you can get at a local grocery store. corn, wheat and by products will cause allergies.
here is a link w/some great foods. i personally recomend Nutro Max, Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul and premium edge. it is more expensive, but the dog will eat less, poo less and be lots healthier.

My husky use to do the same thing cause of flies. We always put vaseline on his ears. It helped alot. If its not flies then it has to be an allergy?
Good luck..

do you "ware" her out i mean WEAR her out 3-5 times a week?when i say ware out i mean play her favorite game untill she dose not want to any more , or untill she is so worn out she want to lay down and rest ...panting ....that means she is sweating /exersizing and her breed NEEDS it to be mentaly healty not just physically it could be a nueratic behavor from lack of exersize...she is a working breed so she needs to work at least 3-5 times a week peferably daily...good luck....i have a border collie and i got her from someone who could not control her and relized she did not have the time/lifestyle to own a working breed dog ....and b/c of that the dog was becoming crazy basicaly and now she gose to work 5 days a week and puts in 40+ hrs a week with me and i work at a boarding kennel so it is very stimulating and physical and now i get customers tell me dailly that she is such a great dog or i wish my dog was that good(usually working breed dog owner: labs, collies huskeys healers ect)...and i ask them if they stimulate and "ware" them out regularly and almost all of them say no...

Get a second opinion, from a different Vet.
