Christ gave His life for us, a fundamental Christian belief, would you be willing to live a life of suffering, physical or emotional, in order to help another?

Sometimes dying for Christ is easier than living for Him, in my opinion.

Yes this question is for all, I only used Christ as an analogy that fellow Christians would understand.

good question debra, I think I would have to know how much suffering I would be enduring and how much suffering I would be easing, in order to answer that truthfully...also it depends on who the person was/is...I hate to say this( sort of) but if it were my partner my answer would be unquestionably "yes"..for some others..I dunno.

I give most of what I make to other people to make sure they have their basic necessities and a few small luxuries. So I do sacrifice somethings I would like (not really suffering). Although I suffer every time my teenage daughter rides in the car and takes the radio over!

As for Christ suffering and dying for me? His life was acceptable right until the end by the standards of the day. The last few days were atrocious to be sure. However a straight shot right into heaven with god himself, surely anyone would gladly suffer in a similar way for the same outcome.

As a believer you have already died, and have been born again, you are not required to sacrifice your life for anyone else , however if you choose to live in the service of humanity that's fine that may of course contain a life of suffering, physical or emotional, in order to help another, the choice will always be yours ...martyrdom for believers is not an option

It would have to depend on the situation. But then again, I'm not Christ so I wouldn't pretend that I would be that holy.

So, just being perfectly honest, probably not.

(But do you REALLY know and understand what it means to die for Christ? That is the question. People can talk all they want about it. Put your money where your mouth is if you really want to suffer for Christ. Give up all of your possessions and be a pauper, traveling the world to help people. Yeah, I didn't think you would.)

Sacrificing yourself is a poor philosophy. The world works best, for everyone, when everyone minds their own business and works hard at something they're passionate about and therefore good at. If everyone would do that, then everyone would be comfortably well off, society would evolve by leaps and bounds, and happiness could be had by all.

Things get messed up when people try to use violence and threats to force people to give them things, or even worse beg for things they don't deserve, never worked for, for the sake of poor philosophies like Christianity, by holding no real morals, just doing what seems best at the time, and inducing guilt in rich people by somehow insisting those people obtained their riches by fraudulent means, or evil means, not by virtue of working hard at something they enjoy.

If I wanted to. But to choose to suffer for anything is to deliberately inflict pain on the most important creation of God; YOU.
Christ cannot die, Jesus did that. The notion of suffering as a virtue is a tiresome misunderstanding of the crucifiction. The true meaning is to show us that we can give up suffering and ascend, become Christ.

A beautiful question, though I don't see it necessarily as a Cristian belief. We all would benefit from living by the high standards of Jesus, but not I think, by the standards ot the churches that use his name.

I don't know why, but I always seem to get the blame for something I have not done.

Also many time, once as a very young man, three boys were picking on a boy across the street, I yell over, leave him alone, well they did, they came over and beat me up.

And I'll do it again in order to help someone

Hello sweet little sister Debra M.. :)

Yes, I would..

I pick up my cross daily and follow Him..We must think of others needs before that of our own..

Acts 20 says:

23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)

I think as Christians, we all like to think we would, but this is really a tough question. I have seen some sacrifices made, but they were spur of the moment things. I am sure the ones who made the sacrifices were rewarded for it.

Yes! There have been times I ask God to give there pain to me,
So far it hasn't happened. I can not think of a better way to feel good than by helping someone else. My mother taught me long ago when you feel bad "Do something for someone else quick"
