It is a genetic disease of the lungs in which the lungs produce an overabundance of mucous and requires daily therapies and maintenance. It is very serious. Those with it eventually die from it. There is no cure.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that is caused by a mutation in a cell membrane protein that is important for controlling the transport of ions in and out of the cell (most specifically chloride ions). In the mutated form a large number of problems occur including the buildup of mucous in the lungs as others have mentioned. But other organs are affected such as the pancreas. Children and adults with CF need to undergo physical therapy for their lung capacity to loosen up the secretions but they are at a much higher risk for lung infections and generally do not live much beyond their third decade, but this is much longer than was even expected twenty years ago.

The primary problem in cystic fibrosis is the composition of the mucus the individual produces, making it very much thicker than normal, and too thick for normal body mechanisms to effectively deal with. The major body systems affected are the lungs and the digestive system.
Early diagnosis allows very good treatment that lessens the symptoms and delays damage to the organs. It is somewhat more common in persons of Northern European ancestry, but can be found in any racial group or subgroup.

It is Cystic Fibrosis and it is a terminal disease caused by genetics. It is where the individual's body produces way too much mucus and the excess mucus gets stored into the bodys organs especially the lungs and that is why a person who has this disease is frequently subjected to lung infections such as pneumonia. There are inhaled antibiotics the person can take but it only prolonges the inevitable. The person usually does not live to early teens.

Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that affects the mucous producing systems in the body, clogging the lungs and affecting the bodies ability to properly absorb certain nutrients. Children born with the illness are usually small for their age and require frequent hospitalizations to keep the illness under control. Until recently most children with the disease only live until they are in their early teens.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder where the lungs produce too much mucous, filling the lungs.
The disease, like many genetic disorders, has varying degrees of seriousness. I knew a guy in high school who has it and he lived a relatively normal life. Of course, it limited his ability to perform in sports and he was on medication.
I also read a book about a girl who died from it when she was very young (5-6).
The best bet its to talk to your doctor and read as much literature as possible.
Prepare for the worst, and be suprised when it's not as bad.
