I have had a toy poodle for a year and he is a little over a yr old but recently he has started going to the bathroom in the house, last 6 months. The thing is he does it when we are all in bed or when no one is around so I can't catch him. I don't know what to do, I have had him smell it and told him no-he used to be really good about going outside when I told him potty. Now he just goes any where. I have another male dog- a lab- but he is an outside dog. Anyone with an idea????

The dog doesn't care about going where the other dogs smell is, that's just ridiculous. If he isn;t neutered, that's probably the reason. I would just get him a crate and put him in it at night if I were you.

Okay so I have an incredible 11year old toy poodle and about 4 months ago he started to pee everywhere. He does have intensive heart failure and we talked to the vet and he said it could be a sign of kidney failure...=/ I really hope that isn't the case for you, but if your dog starts to develop a pretty severe cough, I would contact the vet and see if he could give you some medicine. Ever sinnce Mocha has been taking his medicine he has got drastically better. (toy poodles have a pretty big likely hood of having heart issues...)

my toy poodle did that too - he would pee in the house when we weren't home, and he would always do it in the same place. we thought at first it might be a bladder problem, but we figured out it was probably a dominance problem. our dog thought he was dominant over us, and thought the house was his. he died suddenly, so we didn't get a chance to see an animal behaviorist about it.

i would say to see the veterinarian just to be sure it isn't a bladder or urinary tract infection, then if that turns out negative, see if your veterinarian has #'s for an animal behaviorist or trainer in your area who can work with you and your dog.
