I'm one of those people who loves to go to the pet store just to look at all the cute dogs! Im fully aware that most dogs come from Pet Mills and I do not plan on buying from one. I'm just wondering if anyone knows where the pet store PJ Pet's buys their animals from?

Just wanted to mention that I'm in western Canada. I wonder if we get puppies from puppy mills in the states here?

Pretend to be interested in a puppy and ask to see the AKC papers, it will tell you the state that it came from!!!!!
Midwest=puppy mills

Most puppy millers DO NOT contact pet stores and make deals!!! A BROKER is the middleman!!!! The "breeder" usually sells for about $100 per puppy, the broker charges the pet store that plus his hundred or two, the pet store charges what they want!!!!!Puppy millers do not have the time or desire to deal direct with pet stores as a rule.

Even if it came from a place somewhat local,a good breeder would have no reason to sell a puppy to a pet store for a couple hundred so the store can sell it for a thousand. If the breeder could get the thousand, doesn't everyone think they would????

Pet stores buy their pups from individual breeders who don't charge too much. Most of these breeders are in fact puppy millers, as you know. They will sometimes contact stores and neg. deals on shipping registering prices etc. You will notice that they NEVER sell in their own state. BTW, puppy mill can be from any State but the Midwest and Lancaster County, PA are notoriously bad. You will hate me but don't go top the pet stores even to look it just encourages them. Also did you know that when puppies aren't sold at the store the are sold at an action for puppy millers? They go right back to the hell of being in a mill. If you love animals why don't you volunteer at the humane society? You can walk dogs or even just play with them. It is fun for you and great for the dogs.

Chances are extremely high that a dog purchased from a pet store comes from a puppy mill. You might be surprised to learn that puppy mill puppies are often registered and come with papers, so don't let that be an indication that all is well.

Like Torbay said, ask to see the papers...More than likely it came from the Midwest...puppymill central.

Our pet store has them shipped in from the Midwest, but now and then they do buy them from local backyard breeders (not much better) It's cheaper for them to get them from the mills, so they can make a huge profit off them. Like the $3,000 "show quality" Chinese Crested with the over shot jaw and demodex mange one of my clients bought from them. :rollseyes:
