there are translators on the net such as babel http://babelfish.altavista.com/

but.... they can be very literal...also they will usually always translate into formal spanish not familiar spanish between friends - this is less of a problem translating into English but really you cant rely on them really 100%... its a starting point though.

id say you could take an email, translate it with the translator but then go through the script using a dictionary. Better to write in the language you know & translate the replies of the language you dont.... the translators can make sometimes big embarrassing errors! Get a good english-spanish dictionary.... the best you can afford - preferably with a grammar section that will be helpful later & you can get some (try collins) ... that will give you examples of letters, text messages etc

also use the net.... websites such as
http://www.studyspanish.com/
have free study tools - you can start to learn a bit... if you are able to get to a class... even better.... try to learn more!

you can also find spanish slang & lots of other thigs to help you learn spanish just by using the intenet search facilities!

If there is serious interest, learning the languages is the only long term plan but in the mean time... there are things you can do...

***use the translator with a dictionary

***use pictures

***you can find small phrases that are easy to pick up... send them via IM or write them onto images & send them

***find spanish songs that sound good/ you like (www.yahoo.es - you can look by genre) send songs/ links to videos

***find friends.... you can probably both find someone you know who speaks a bit of spanish/english.... get them to help!

***remember that you dont have to speak the whole language right away - send the few words you know/learnt that week - the other persn will get the idea, they are in the same boat & mostly they will appreciate the gesture of your effort

just be creative - there are lots of ways we can express ourselves without having to use words... dont let the distance be a problem... actually when we are with people we communicate only a small percentage with our actual words!

The effort one puts in will depend upon how big ones wish is....

best of luck!

If he wants a relationship, he will have to be able to communicate with her. It would be a big plus for her if he learns Spanish. This can be done in a continuing education class, or it can be self taught if he has the will. www.yourdictionary.com has a list of many dictionaries. One is English - Spanish or Spanish - English dictionary. It doesn't help with syntax. Bablefish is a site that will translate whole sentences. There maybe some error in the translation. It is possible that he might want to say, "When I look at you, time stands still." and the translation in Spanish, " You face could stop a clock." It will require patience on both ends, but the effort put into it could be very rewarding.

well she should learn english and he should learn spanish...or just move on. it is over the internet, not like they've truely met. besides if you can't communicate with a person to start with how can you be that interested in this person beyond physical appearances. i don't call lust intrest in another person.

There is free translation sites on the internet.
You type in english, select which language to translate to, it is translated, then type to them exactly as the translation is written.
She can do the same for you. Type what she wants to say in spanish, translate to english; and then type to you her answers in english.

It's not meant to be.

(By the way, I think your accent should be acute, not grave.)
