Not to long ago there was a news article about a women who passed away and the cause was unknown for quite some time. As it turned out, she was drinking soda from a can. The can came from a warehouse as do all goods. They had discovered that rat urine was all over the can that she was drinking from. She died within days. The bacteria was fast and deadly. This was a true documented story. Beware and be safe.

Well, there are a few.

1) The cans should be cleaned thoroughly. You have to clean down in the groove at the top edge.

2) There is something about the metal in the can that can be harmful to your health.

3) The one that make me not want to drink from a can the most is, if something should get in the can or is dropped in the can, you cannot see it.

No thanks, give me a bottle to drink from or I will pour beverage out of the can into a glass.

The only thing I can think of is the contamination that may be on top of the can from all the people that have handled it. Think about all the people who don't bother to wash their hands after using the restroom and may be involved in the packing and shipping or of all the rodents that run around the warehouse in which the cans are stored. These can all leave traces of E-coli on the can lid you may not see. I wash the cans before I open them...not paranoid, just a nurse who has seen too much.

The cans use to be potentially dangerous when the tabs were 'pull off.' I remember making chains out of them. Now there are the kind that are riveted on, per se. Other than that, the only time aluminum becomes a dangerous agent is when it is heated. Soda is never heated...except when you leave it in the sun.

A study found that the outside of soda cans is very likely to be covered in microorganisms. They actually swabbed the outside of soda cans and found e.coli bacteria on many of them. Think about it- how many people could have touched that soda while it was sitting in the store cooler. The cold preserves bacteria, so it is alive and can make you sick when you ingest it.

Soda cans are lined with coal tar dangerous to your health which causes cancer.

Too much copper in the machines or vending machine can leak and back up and go in the cans, and cause nerve problems or damage.

Unless you wash the soda cans heaven only knows where it's been stored (warehouse); what's ran across it (warehouse), what has been on it.

I always wash the top of a can off before drinking from it.
