Yes God says not to do it so it is a sin.

If you would ask me this question, face to face, I'd ask you "would you like to have one?", and then we make conversations based on that, till you find out whether you 'need' it or 'want' it. Then, we may go on further, but this will just be the beginning of a 'journey' where you get to 'find out' other stuff about God too - that He really is a nurturing God, deep down, even when many evil things happen on earth. Now, don't we go blaming God for everything that happen to us either. Those of us who've been angry before, incl me, as a Christian, know that we are not done yet. If we don't express ourselves as people who still continue to wrong (not necessarily 'sin'), we are in effect saying we're perfect, no need for God.
Anyway, I digress. I would say 'sin' is anything that has caused a person to lose control and continues to be out of control, doing it as a way of life, habit, life pattern. Just one isolated tattoo on the body is not a sin. Know where your 'lines' are. And God is not fooled either, He knows when we try to excuse ourselves or when we are really genuine.
Learn from a beleiving mentor. The Old Testament is for us to know but not to 'thump' others head with it. The New Testament is for us to practice loving acts so we may fully embrace JC as Lord and Savior! :)

The Bible warns us against tattoos in Leviticus 19:28 which says, "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord

your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. It could be considered descreation to your body. If you are considering getting one, I highly recommend that you don't. They will look good now, but when you 65-70 years old? its a more painful process to get a tattoo removed than to actually get one.

If marking your body is a sin, then wouldn't getting in a car accident and getting a scar be a sin too?

If you're a Christian, yes. I promise you that it is. However, I can't tell you the exact place in the Bible it is located that states it is in fact a sin, but I know that it is.

You can decide, but consider this.
Lev 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

it depends on which religion you follow. In Judaism you cannot get a tattoo in order to be buried in a Jewish grave.

You were given a great gift of a physical body from God and you think that marking it up like a poster will make it better somehow?
