I have many Jewish friends & this is not racist, but somehow I get annoyed when asked if I am Jewish.
I don't know why because I don't get annoyed if I am asked if I am Irish, etc.
I think maybe it's because I consider Judaism a faith, and I still think it is rude or at least lacking in tact (even for Jewish people) to ask if you are Jewish based on looks (but I find mainly Jewish people do this).
I mean if you ask if I am part Irish, I am, so I say "yes." And someone can say "you look it." That may be true. But what if someone is an atheist? Isn't that rude to assume that person is religious?
please let me know. I am curious & didn't mean to be rude.

I'm Jewish, and I get asked all the time -- it's probably because of this yarmulke I'm wearing, but aaaanyway..
Why be offended? Unfortunately (and I say unfortunately because I personally wish that more Jews would practice Judaism these days, but that's neither here nor there), the person who asks you if you're Jewish is probably not inquiring into your religion. Hell, aren't like, nine tenths of Israeli Jews secular? I have a lot of Jewish friends who are shomer Shabbos (Sabbath-observant), but most of my Jewish friends keep no religion at all. If someone asked them if they were Jewish, they'd say yes without flinching.
One wonders, though, why you would be offended by someone thinking that you were Jewish? You say you equate it with a religion - do you have a dislike for the religion? Or for the people? Mind if I ask why? Or are you simply uncomfortable in your own beliefs, and being asked about them makes you uneasy? If so, that's a shame.
Like I said, asking someone if they're Jewish is not to assume that they're religious. I know far too many non-religious and even anti-religious Jews for that to be the case.

My father is German /Jewish. My mother is German / Mexican. I think I have the rite to be offended at most ethnic questions. And to add insult to injury my children's father is American Indian, LOL. I think getting offended at these type of things are not worth you precious time on earth.

I'm a Jewish convert and would welcome the question. I can't imagine why you would be offended. I wonder if Christians and Muslims are offended when asked about their religion.

Try not to be hypersensitive. People are just curious. Be patient. You could politely ask, why do you want to know?
