It can happen even with a glass of water, and I feel my throat by the windpipe seize up - it goes to swallow it, then locks. I tend to have to spit it out, can't even swallow saliva until it clears, and eventually the passage releases, and whatever was there either goes down, or has to come up. Last time it froze, was shut for hours, and couldn't eat or drink, hard to breathe. Any ideas? Tried Dr's / Barium meals etc...

You said you saw a doctor? What was the prognosis? At the very least, make sure they give you some sort of anti-spasm meds in case it closes up all the way and you can't breathe. Do you think it's stress, or allergies? Try testing different things, like stop eating certain foods for awhile, or work on deep relaxation skills to see if any methods like that help. Also!!!! Learn to give yourself the abdominal thrust. That technique saved my brother's life.

I suffered from these symptoms like this it was due to gastroesophageal reflux where the stomach acid burns the lining of the windpipe and causes irritation when you go to eat or drink,
found best to cut down on caffeine and spicy foods for a bit eat slowly with tiny sips of water rather than big gulp.
But go see your GP to rule out anything else

i too have had these problems, this may help depending on your back-ground info. i have a connective tissue disease (ehlers-danlos syndrome), which can happen with that. then through a strange occurrence while being treated for EDS (right across the hall from the bathroom) a doctor wrote down a word Eosinophilic-white blood count. There are disorders of this that have to do with Gastrointestinal/Esophagus. If nothing else, you can rule it out.

Allergic reaction to something, maybe? If you're having problems breathing then go to the emergency clinic as it may be serious. Or call an ambulance.

Do you take Paxil?

I have read about withdrawls from Paxil that compare to your complaint.

I would do two things. See an Ear nose throat specialist, and also a neurologist ..something about glossopharngeal neurology comes to mind. I am no doctor though.

this can be caused by anxiety;I know,I've had it happen myself and it's very frightening. If your doctor says all is well physically, then you might try a mild tranquiliser an hour before eating;also hypnotism might help.Whatever's causing it,I hope you're feeling better soon

What kind of doctors did you go to???? You need to see a gastroenterologist. It sounds to me like its your esophagus. I was doing what you are and they had to stretch my esophagus.
Best of luck to you.
