When your puppy gets his moehawk (hackles) its usually a sign of aggression or fear induced aggression. Its the dogs body of naturally fluffing up and looking bigger than its apponent. Those hair foliciles are drive down deep into the skin sprinkled by many nerves, so when your dog is stimulated, the hair is usually effected, and you get the hackels to stick up, sometimes on the dogs withers and or on the rump. Its kinda like when we see something on TV that gives us goose bumps or hear an irritating sound, we don't controll it, but are aware of it. It can be an intimidation tactic to bluff the approaching dog or stranger, extreemly excited or when they are really upset. Most puppies do this to try to intimidate or just overly excited, not so much for aggression.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7Ge

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Arrector pili are the erector muscle of the hair. They are strands of smooth muscles attached to the hair follicleor shaft at one end and to the dermis at the other end just beneath the epidermis. On contraction the arrector pili pull the hair into an upright position and creates a tiny dimple into the skin beneath the hair. In the absence of hair i.e. in glabrous skin it forms the "goose bumps".

Forming the goose bumps is a reflex action (pilomotor reflex.) A reflex action is one which takes place automatically, without thinking, immediately and repeatedly in the same manner, when the same stimulus is applied.

The contraction of arrector pili muscles, pulls on the hair changing the angle they make with skin and such movement can trap variable amounts of air in the fur. This mechanism allows animals to keep themselves warm or cool as required.

It normally happens when they're angry or frightened. Their hair puffs up so they look bigger and more intimidating. Sometimes male dogs confuse excitement with having to prove their dominance. I haven't heard of girl dogs doing it before, but I certainly am not an expert.

She elevating her hackles this is a undertaking, or confident, a possibility, frequently considered in the direction of different canines (or the postman this is undesirable!). i wouldn't be too worried whilst she does this with different canines, provided you have her on a lead and decrease than administration because of the fact she ought to take it to the subsequent step (battling). notwithstanding, if she's doing this to you, you ought to renounce it, and speedy. She's attempting to dominate you, and he or she needs to income you're desirable dogs, no longer her. maybe some preparation training, or a one-on-one coach coming in could help, a minimum of that should assist you cope with what's going on. you're right, she ought to do harm in case you do no longer form this behaviour out, and speedy.

My cat gets the same thing when she is startled. I believe it's an adrenaline thing, like when the hairs raise on the back of our necks.

Pricking up the hair along the spine is usually associated with agressive behavior. I would guess she sees you as the submissive one in the relationship, which is very common.
