Catholics believe yes, you have to be baptised by water to go to heaven. If you are not baptised to erase original sin, you will go to Purgatory instead. That's what Catholics taught me. I now belong to a Christian non-denominational church. We believe baptism is the washing away of the old sinful ways and being born into a life dedicated to God. Baptism isn't necessary to go to heaven. ...I think it depends on which church you go to...)(

Two part answer; baptism is accepting Christ Authority (borrowing a line; hook, line, and sinker).Part 2; yes water is involved (John 3:5), but the Israelites were baptized when they walked Thur the Red Sea on dry ground (1 Cor. 10:2) and there is also the case of the thief on the cross. When God created the earth he separated the waters above the land and below the land. If someone thinks there was no water when 'the thief' was on the cross; what is humidity?

Water didn't die on the cross...Jesus did. By saying we must be basptised to go to heaven aren't we elevating water or the baptising priest over Jesus! Jesus gets us into heaven, baptism is one of the many things we do to follow him.

No. When you die, your soul goes to the Gates of Heaven. The Book of Life is read to see if your name is in the book. If it is, you are allowed into Heaven. If it is not, your soul is thrown into the lake of fire where your soul then dies.
You do not BUY your name into the book with money and you do not have to be baptised to get into heaven. It is based on what you did with your life.

No. Jesus (according to the Bible) was not baptised in water until he was well into adulthood. Do you think He would not have gone to heaven, had he died before that evevt.

The purpose of a baptism is to cleanse your soul. When you are born you are already a sinner; because of original sin (a belief I think is ridiculous, i mean how has an infant with no choice in it's own creation become a sinner automatically). Technically speaking I believe that if you weren't baptized you would either go to hell or purgatory if you were a sinner, if you weren't you'd go to limbo (I'm not sure if the Catholics believe in purgatory or limbo anymore)

No I do not. Being baptised is our way of telling everyone that we have put our trust in Jesus. Jesus does tell us to be baptised but I do not think we will be shut out of heaven if you don't.

Good question - As a converted Catholic to Baptist, I have learned that there is only one path to heaven. That path is by Jesus Christ alone. Below is a simple prayer that will guide you towards salvation.
Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner.
Lord Jesus, I believe that you are the son of God
and that you died on the cross for my sins.
Right now, Lord Jesus, I am placing my total trust in you.
Lord, come into my heart, forgive me of my sins, and save me.
From this day forward, I will live for you.
Thank you for saving me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I believe that God has commanded us to be baptized, but I also believe that God is merciful and just. Think about all of the people who have lived in the world in times or places where they wouldn't have even heard about baptism. God would not be merciful or just if he condemned these to hell who didn't even have a chance or know. I think everyone needs to seek truth and accept it. I believe God will judge us on how much truth we have and what we did with it. I believe the most important thing is being kind to others.
