We usually recommend bringing a puppy in once it's had all it's shots for a basic bath and tidy up. This gets the pup used to the environment and procedures while it's still young and before there's too much coat to deal with.

Please note that while some groomers may charge less for a little puppy, some will not. This is because many groomers will take extra time with a pup to make sure it is comfortable, and puppies tend to squirm around and sometimes take more time to groom than an older, experienced dog. Also, the first haircut is usually less than perfect for the same reasons. As the dog matures and settles down, and the hair quality improves, the haircuts should get better.

12 weeks. By then they should have all their shots. Get them use to being groomed and in a grooming environment early and often. Most groomers will have you bring the pup in and with bathe it, brush it out, do its nails, clean the ears and do a light scissor trim (face, feet, butt) This gets the puppy use to all the noises and smells in the shop. Makes things a little easier on the dog (and the groomer) once the pup will need a full haircut. When that is depends on you..but every 4-6 weeks is recommended for Yorkies. Even if it is just a bath/brush and light scissor trim (face feet etc)

PLEASE ,DO NOT wait until the dog is a year old to have it groomed for the first time. Usually, unless you comb it out daily, the dog will be matted, will have to be stripped down and will be totally freaked out because it has no idea what is going on. Not to mention the process will take twice as long (and more expensive) because the dog is matted and very uncooperative.

It's a good idea to start them as soon as they have been properly vaccinated for dhlpp and kennel cough. Usually by 14 weeks. This way they can get used to being groomed. Just a little puppy cut now. Feet, face and tail. Makes for a better experience the rest of their lives. Yorkies really don't reguire much more than feet, face and tail if you want to keep them in full coat. Congratulations on your new baby.

As long as the dog is over 3 months ( which it should already be, yorkie pups should be with mom until 3 months) it's ok to take them to the groomer. They will use a mild puppy shampoo.

Your groomer should tell you how often to bring him in, depending on if you want long hair or the puppy cut.

Start young 3-4 months even if its just for a bath and brushing. Just a little pampering. Stick around and watch so the first time is a pleasant experience. Once the experience is a bad one than they will become anxious and not want to go. Go to some one that comes highly recommended. This will be a life time of experiences. Make them all as pleasant as possible.

Your dog should be groomed forthe first time at about 12 weeks of age. Vaccinations are important. REALLY important. Your dog needs to learn to be groomed by a groomer who has experince with puppies.

OH! A snooty, prissy, dog, huh??? LOL.
Better off just bathing him in the pool and then throw him in the spin drier for about 30 minutes on perm. press. LOL.

Call the groomer, they'll tell you. Many don't want them until they had certain shots.
