I am a clinical psychiatrist and young man the very last thing you would want to do is take drugs to help you to sleep. These drugs are addictive and will just make your inability to sleep even worse when you try to get yourself off the controlled or over the counter sleeping medications.

Sounds like your mind is always running like a computer. You need to learn how to do behaviour modification.

Start listening to "new age music". Each night try going to bed atleast one hour earlier then you did the night before. (Some one mentioned warm milk, excellent idea).

Avoid as much as you can computer games, programs on TV that stimulate your mind with excitement.

Have your parents take you to YOGA classes, so that you can learn how to relax more.

Easier said then done: When you go to bed it is for sleeping and this means that you must learn to shut down all thoughts in your mind. Relax and just drift off to sleep.

Remember you are in control of your own mind.

Being that you are only 13 years old, why don't you talk to your parents about relaxation classes. This will do you a world of good.

Last of all if you are in a family that eats their main meal in the evening, try and have your main meal no later then 6pm. (Eating a main meal very late at night will prevent you from sleeping).

Stay away from soda, coffee, teas that have caffeine after 6pm. These drinking products have stimulants and will prevent you from going to sleep.

Wish you the very best.

Please excuse my english grammer. Basque French is my primary language.

try to do lots of activities 4 hours before you want to sleep. After that, eat dinner. Make sure your assignments are in place and watch a little bit of TV. Sit on a comfy couch and far away from the TV so that it's not bright in your face for more ideas go to this site:

I'm no expert but your not getting enough sleep. You should go to sleep no later than 9:30pm. You have to get into a sleeping pattern, which means the same way every time. You need about 8hrs. of sleep to function properly.

excersise all day long, that should make you tired enough, if not just try to go to bed early, do not turn to medication for an easy problem, also check your matterss it might be worn out, try flipping it over and if that doesn't work try sleeping on the floor or in a different position, or get up early everyday.
