As an young adult(early 20s) is it OK to lie about something that is nobodies business but your own.

For example, if you have done something DUMB that will not affect anyone else but will only hurt yourself is it OK to lie about it when asked point blank in order to save yourself? By save yourself I mean from the LONG talk, disappointment, a lot of concern and answering a lot of embarassing questions.

What if it was the Pastor that you lied to? Does it make a differance who you lie to? Would it be best to confess that you lied? What if you still do not want to tell the truth? Could you just admit you lied and refuse to revisit the question?

I do that all the time. I'm not a christian, so it really wouldn't matter who I was lying to.

I don't believe there's one person on this earth in his early twenties that has never told a lie. Lying in itself is rather tiring and maybe often not the best option, but if nobody is getting hurt by it and it's something from the past that is rather personal, I don't see the point in telling anybody. Maybe you'll get to the point someday that you'll want to tell the truth about it and then you can. To me lying to a pastor isn't any worse than lying to somebody else 'cause we're all people. I do think you have the right to admit you lied and then refuse to revisit the question by the way. Don't hit yourself over the head for this. It's probably just a matter of time before you come to realize that there a much worse things than this lie you told and then you'll be wondering why you gave yourself such a hard time for this incident.

Part of being a responsible person is being able to "own" our actions, words, deeds etc. We've all been in a position where saving our own skin seemed the best thing to do, but in the long run, it's better to be honest and accept the consequences of our actions, than to lie and hide from the truth, because you can't hid from the truth that's fact. A lie is a lie and it's dosnt matter who you lie too, the fact is you have lied to someone, be it your Pastor, brother, sister, friend, the local shop owner. You actually answered your own question in the end. Admit that you lied and maybe not refuse to revisit why you lied, but work through why you lied and you might just want to open up to your pastor or whoever. Forgiveness is a great thing, so is Grace :) But if someone asks you something that's none of their business, you dont have to lie to them, you have the right to tell them it's none of their business.

I think alot of us do that. I know I do. It's easier to lie about it than to tell them that it's none of their business because when you say it's none of their business, it's almost like confessing. I lie about the things I've done when I know it will really hurt the person who is asking. Morally it's not ok to lie about it, you should just tell them it's none of their business. But what's morally right and what people really do, are two different things. Good Luck.

i think your shouldn't be lying, i mean im talking from experience. i lied alot about something so i wouldn't have to asnwer questions and be pitied for and basically the same reason you must've lied. but, the point is, because i kept it inside so long, when people eventually found out, they got mad at me for NOT telling them, not for doing w/e i did. so i think you should tell at least one person (someone close to you) the truth, so when other people fidn out, that one person will be with you by your side.

No! Lying takes away from a person's integrity. It is better to die with your integrity than live life as a weak marshmallow.

You're the one that has to live with the fact that you're dishonest--so you decide.
