And do they ever run out of the oil to where you have to put more in it? How does that work?

They are sealed with oil. This is instead of heaters with open electric coils.
Heaters with open electric coils are very hazardous.
Oil filled heaters are much better.
Make sure your electric circuits can handle the load safely.

You might also consider plastic window covers, the kind you make tight with a hair dryer.

When you refer to the "house oil-filled heater" are you refering to an oil fueled central furnace? Some of the responses assume you are comparing two types of electrical heaters. Electrical heat may be more efficient, but cost depends on what your utility charges per kwhr. As an electrician, I am more concerned about the potential for damaging wiring (especially older wire) by sustained operation of such a large electrical load. In my 25 years, all of the residential electrical fires I've seen have been caused by an electric space heater overtaxing house wiring. A 1500W heater, by itself, uses just over the allowed 12A continuous draw on a 15A circuit. Over time, this can cause dangerous (and costly) damage.

they are very good. they can heat a bedroom, or living room well. they are sealed and you do not need to add or change the oil (for a long time). they can get very hot, so keep the kids and pets away. and they use the same electricity as a 1500 watt coil heater.

Sure they work great. I have one and am very happy with it. The oil you refer to is in a sealed series of tubes and never runs out. There is no need to refill it.
