So basically, Agamemnon (the husband of Clytemnestra) leaves Mycenae to go fight along side his brother (husband of Helen… you know, the Helen of Troy that Paris kidnapped) in to Trojan War. Unfortunately, he angers the goddess Artemis, so she won’t let him sail off (by using her powers and stuff) until he appeases her. He finds out from a prophet that the only way to gain her forgiveness is to sacrifice his daughter, Iphigenia. So he agrees, the daughter dies, and they sail off.

While he’s away, Aegisthus starts wooing his wife, Clytemnestra. At first she resists but eventually he succeeds. Playing on her anger and grief for the death of her daughter, Aegisthus convinces her to help him contrive a plan to murder Agamemnon, so that they can rule Mycenae together. Yeah…well it works.

Several years later, Orestes (the only son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra) returns to find his father murdered. Obviously, his isn’t very pleased with that, so he takes his revenge by murdering Aegisthus and Clytemnestra (his mom) in turn and regaining his father’s kingdom.

That’s all I know, so you’ll probably have to research more if you want a good grade on the English thing. Oh, and check http://www.wikipedia.org and http://www.pantheon.org/. The latter one is especially good.

Odyssey is a good book, we read this in College and had to do a 10 page research paper. Another interesting book was "Animal Farm" we did a 10 pager on it too. In History class we read Nicholas and Alexandra now that a book everyone should read, as many go watch that Disney Movie "Anastasia" and think this wonderful Fantasy, when in real life she was taken into a cellar with her Mom, Dad, Sisters and Brother and Shot in the head. Interesting what people can learn if they could learn to read.

Everyone has sent in good answers, especially Thomas B's link. I bookmarked the site :)

Here is another site about The Odyssey which is written in today's lingo....makes me want to go to the bookstore, buy a copy, and reread it.

Do read it sweetie. It will make you feel powerful thirty years down the road when you say say "Yes, I read it and yes I understand it"

Do your own homework. You'll feel much better about it if you do it yourself, and you'll actually learn, which is something everyone definitely needs to do.
