There are many factors that influence when labor begins. Your baby can be engaged for weeks, you can start to dialate, loose your mucus plug, start having contractions and still not go into labor for weeks. Once you are having regular contractions 5 minutes apart for at least 2 hours straight, that is a good sign that you are in labor---If it is your first baby.

my sons head engaged at 33weeks and he still came write on his expected date!!!!!but there is a chance once the heads engaged that you can go any time just keep an eye out for your show to come away and any cramps

if you mean once the baby drops and gets into position then it can still take a couple weeks.
