Try something called Peek A Boos. You pin up the hair at the crown of your head and apply highlights to the rest. when your hair is down the highlights peek through. This is also easier to maintain because the roots don't show... you can go for longer periods between touch-ups.

Be very subtle. For example, if your hair is dark brown, go for gold or copper highlights, not blonde, it takes a special touch to carry that off right and if you do it wrong you'll look trashy. If you start real subtle, you will have natural looking highlights that you can't mess up.

Highlights are nice lookin and its something new rather than coloring your whole head so try it i am sure you won't regret it....Just make sure you let someone who knows what they are doing to perform on your hair.

try a color that is closer to your hair color. subtle hightlights look better. the great difference between the two colors will look awkward and the sun will fade the color to light eventually.

I look at it this way, it is only hair. How will you know if you like it or not if you don't try it. If you hate it then color over it.
