I like Eric Carle books.

1.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar, 1969
This all-time favorite not only follows the very hungry caterpillar as it grows from egg to cocoon to beautiful butterfly, but also teaches the days of the week, counting, good nutrition and more. Striking pictures and cleverly die-cut pages offer interactive fun.
2.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
written by Bill Martin Jr, 1967
Appealing animals in bold colors are seen and named in a rhyming question-and-response text that delights as it invites young readers and listeners to participate actively.

3. Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?
written by Bill Martin Jr, 1991
Easy, repetitive question-and-response text draws children into joyful interaction as they imitate the sounds of a variety of zoo animals for the zookeeper. Big, bold animal illustrations and lots of noisy fun.

The Little Prince, because it teaches about finding your place in the world, and being responsible

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, because Roald Dahl's descriptions and subtle humor entertain me even as an adult :)

The Little House on the Prairie books, especially On the Banks of Plum Creek, because it reminds me of being a little girl growing up in rural America, and I love the close family ties!

It's hard to pick just 3 because I love so many! Shel Silverstein, Richard Peck, Susan Cooper, Lois Duncan....so many wonderful children's book authors!!!!

1) Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day because everyone has those types of days, even adults (don't forget somedays are just like that, even in Australia)
2) Make Way for Ducklings because it gets kids involved with the adventures of a family of ducks and helps them to empathize with animals etc.
3) Jennifer's Walk because it is about a little blonde girl named Jennifer who goes on a walk and has all kinds of little adventures in nature and my name is Jennifer and I was a little blonde girl. It was my favorite book growing up I literally read it to pieces. I haven't been able to find a nice copy as an adult.

My Many Colored Days by Dr Seuss. It's a great book for little kids about feelings and has great artwork in it.

Anything by Shel Silverstein. His poems are very funny for all ages.

The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles by Julie Edwards. I loved this book when I was a kid. I always wanted to be able to go to the magic land they go to.

I love books. There are many more favorites too.

Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame is a must!
Peter Pan, by J. M. Barrie.
Bambi, by Felix Salten.
Extra bonus: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C. S. Lewis.
Pay attention! Only the originals, not the adapted ones for or from the Disney´s movies. O. K. ?

We're going on a bear hunt - because you can really get the children involved in acting it out

Where the wild things are - really caters to their imagination

The old woman who swallowed a fly - children love the nonsense of this book, and you can re-enact the story.

Parts
More Parts. My boys love them. They are about a boy who discovers different aspects of his body, and how the English language confuses children with meanings. They are not rude/crude but quite funny.

Winnie the Pooh books by Disney. My one son loved the pace and quietness of them.
